Statement of Work (SOW) Project: Gas analysis of rumen fermentation products
GENERAL INFORMATION
1.0 Scope of Work: We investigate forage plants in terms of animal nutrition characteristics, alternative use biochemistry and greenhouse gas production caused by the fermentation of materials eaten by farm animals. Research is conducted in conjunction with plant breeders to select for specific desired traits. Research is both lab and field based.
2.0 Background: Farm animal gas emissions have been suspected of having environmental impacts to the climate. A method of characterizing which materials have the most effect on the amount and type of gas that is being emitted from an animal is an important step for further research. Our project has the added research responsibility to analyze feeds for variations of gases created upon digestion. This new instrument request will be part of a novel gas sampler that will give a continuous real time analysis of these digestion gases.
CONTRACTOR REQUIREMENTS
3.0 Technical Requirements/Tasks:
We require a gas chromatograph system that incorporates two different detectors in order to analyze the gases formed from forage plants digesting.
The new GC system must be backwardly compatible to an existing gas chromatograph system so that previously collected data and methods can be utilized/viewed/analyzed via the new software package. Whereas the existing system has only one detector, software/data should be compatible. The existing system is an Agilent 7890 gas chromatograph with a 7693 liquid auto sampler running Agilent chemstation C 01.07 software.
• The new GC system must be able to integrate completely with our existing liquid autosampler
• The GC system will be a design of a single manufacturer completely integrated for control and data collection. Include a non Lenovo branded computer in Win 10 standalone (non network) configuration, with monitor and printer. System must be able to operate in either a networked or completely stand alone configuration.
• Gas Chromatograph (GC) system: Simultaneously support 2 split/splitless
(max +400C)with gas saver mode injection ports, 4 detectors and four detector data streams. Septum purge on injection ports. Electronic gas control system with control precision of 0.0001 psi, auto gas control for constant pressure, ramped control or constant flow modes. Front panel access to systems able to operate standalone from computer control. Serial port for remote control. Be able to fully integrate with liquid or gas auto sampler. Capable of handling 500+ timed events. Oven able to accommodate 2x capillary or 2x packed columns. Operation of oven temp from ambient +5C to 450C ramp speed of 75C/min (120V) at 0.1C set up resolution. Cooling from 450C to 50C in less than 5 min standard and handle more than 15 temperature ramps in a run
• Detector 1, Thermal Conductivity Detector (TCD). Dynamic range of >10^5 +/-5%. Max temp 400C, in series with FID
• Detector 2, Flame Ionization Detector (FID). Dynamic range of >10^7 +/- 10%. Date rate at up to 1000Hz. Flame detector with auto re ignition, in series with TCD
• Headspace autosampler. 48 vial capacity min. Removable sample racks, hot run exchangeable. Built in adjustable (freq/acceleration) vial shaker.
Independent vial pressurization. Chemically inert sample lines. Automatic purge and vent controls between injections. Capable of using 10,20, 22ml vials without adapter and able to use different vials within a sample sequence. Up to 100 extractions per vial. Headspace concentration of 100 extractions from a single vial from one GC sample run. Complete integration to GC and PC software. All temperature zones increment in 1C with 0.1C resolution. Auto leak checking on vials.
• Offer at min 1 year hardware and onsite support included. Offer multiple off warranty support options both rapid and normal response time, phone, in person or on line. Minimum 10 year guaranteed instrument use and support by company from date of delivery
