B. Notify the COR 7 days in advance of having the foundation surface ready for inspection and geologic mapping. Notify the COR, verbally, 7 days in advance of having subsequent sections of foundation ready for inspection and geologic mapping.
C. Preparation for inspection and geologic mapping of existing dam and dike embankment zones, embankment crest structure foundation, and spillway crest structure foundation.
1. Minimize deterioration of the existing impervious zones or core, maintain the in situ moisture to the extent practical.
2. Foundation shall be in a condition so that the existing embankment zoning and any irregularities are visible.
3. Maintain foundation surfaces in a clean condition and free of standing water.

Final inspection of the foundation will be performed at the completion of geologic mapping, final excavation and foundation treatment within the existing zoned embankments and on the abutment foundation surfaces. Final foundation surfaces may require recleaning as directed by the COR. Allow up to 1 day for foundation approval of the inspection area. Immediately following the foundation inspection period, the COR will either approve the foundation section for permanent construction or will direct the Contractor to perform additional excavation to remove unsuitable materials. If, during inspection following final excavation, the COR determines that additional excavation is required, any surface which requires recleaning for foundation treatment will be inspected by the COR. Equipment traffic on the final approved surface shall be minimal.
If equipment traffic damages an approved surface the COR will direct the Contractor to perform additional cleanup.
G. For final cleanup of the foundation rock surfaces for fill placement, clean all loose and weathered rock and surficial units with the use of vacuum and or air pressure as directed by the COR. Only the minimum amount of air pressure required to effectively clean the surfaces is allowed. Place fill onto the approved surface within a day of Government approval.
31 23 16 - 8
H. During the geologic mapping process, the COR will determine if foundation treatment is required for the mapped bedrock area. Assume 2 working days of foundation treatment for the spillway foundation in addition to the specified inspection and mapping period.
