About this file
This document consists of clarification questions and answers related to a Request for Proposals (RFP) for laboratory bottles from an unnamed state or local agency. The RFP solicits pricing for various bottle types that bidders can provide, including amber glass Boston round bottles, HDPE rectangular bottles, and Nalgene dropper bottles in multiple configurations. Bidders are not required to submit pricing for all items; they may provide quotes for bottles they are able to supply. The bottles have specific technical requirements including EPA-standard cleaning, custom preservation solutions with precise chemical specifications, and particular volume or delivery capacities. One item specified 41.2 grams of Potassium Dihydrogen Citrate, which was clarified to be a typographical error; the correct amount is 1.2 grams.
Key clarifications addressed in the Q&A include confirmation that the HDPE rectangular bottles are manufactured by Ace Glass Incorporated (part number 12431-15), verification that current bottles are not Nalgene brand despite similar specifications, and detailed specifications for dropper bottles regarding delivery volumes. The agency provided specific guidance that hydrochloric acid droppers must deliver exactly 0.5 milliliters due to public use considerations, while sodium hydroxide droppers can be provided in 5 or 10 milliliter bottles based on professional-level usage. The RFP appears to be sourcing laboratory-grade containers for analytical or testing purposes, with emphasis on proper cleaning standards and chemical preservation requirements.

Questions for RRD Lab Bottles RFP Q: Is this an all or nothing bid or should we price out what bottles we are able to provide?
A: This is not an all or nothing bid. Please provide pricing for all bottles on the pricing catalog that you can provide.
Q: Is this an error? - 41.2g of Potassium Dihydrogen is a significant amount of preservative. 41.2 mg perhaps?

A: The four (4) is a typo and should not be in there. The correct preservative is 1.2g Potassium Dihydrogen Citrate.
Q: It looks like most, if not all, of these bottles are manufactured by Nalgene, which is owned by Thermo Fisher Scientific. I’m working with the manufacturer’s rep to get you great pricing and he wanted to know if you can provide the catalog numbers for the bottles that you’re currently ordering? With some of the bottle descriptions on the RFP it is unclear exactly which bottle you need, and we want to make sure that we’re bidding the correct products for your applications.
A: I was informed the current bottles we receive are not Nalgene brand.
Q: Is there any further specifications you can provide on the bottle for the items below? (Drawing, Manufacturer, Part Number, etc.)
HDPE 25 oz WM Rectangular Custom - Bottle, Wide mouth 25oz rectangular HDPE Plastic. 38mm cap assembled bulk packaged. Cleaned to EPA standards. Custom preserved with 5 mL Trace Metal grade 1:1 Nitric Acid. Must hold 750m HDPE 25oz WM Rectangular - Bottle, Wide mouth 25oz rectangular HDPE Plastic. 38mm cap assembled bulk packaged. Cleaned to EPA standards. Must hold 750mL A: 12431-15 - HDPE Rectangular Bottle - Bottle, HDPE Rectangular, Ace Glass Incorporated - Case of 24 Brand: ACE GLASS, INC.
Q: Is there a specific size bottle required for the 2 items below?
Nalgene Dropper Custom - Nalgene dropper, acid resistant cap. Must deliver 0.5mL. Precleaned to EPA standards. Custom preserved with 0.5mL ACS grade 1:1 Hydrochloric Acid Nalgene Dropper Custom - Nalgene dropper, base resistant cap. Must deliver 1mL. Precleaned to EPA standards. Custom preserved with 1mL ACS grade 1:1 Sodium Hydroxide A: The droppers need to be sized to be able to deliver the appropriate volume. We can make an allowance for the Sodium Hydroxide to be a 5 or 10ml bottle with 5 or 10ml of solution, but the HCL needs to deliver 0.5mL only in each bottle. This is because we have JoohnQ. Public using the acid droppers, but mainly professional people use the Sodium Hydroxide.
