About this file
This document is a Questions and Answers file for a streetlight pole replacement project in California, involving multiple electric and construction companies seeking clarification on project specifications. The project involves replacing 60 wooden streetlight poles with new poles and fixtures, with contractors asking detailed questions about installation methods, foundation requirements, pull boxes, sidewalk replacement, concrete curing, lighting downtime, and electrical components. Key technical details include using quick-set concrete for pole bases, installing 1 1/4" schedule 40 conduit, and matching existing LED fixture specifications exactly.
The project has a $500,000 engineer's estimate and requires contractors to carry $5M per occurrence in General Liability insurance, which cannot be negotiated downward. Contractors must follow specific installation guidelines, including safely disconnecting existing wiring, removing old wooden poles, preparing foundations, reinstalling wiring, and connecting new poles and fixtures. Additional requirements include assuming PG&E or streetlight boxes within 15' of pole locations, potentially replacing entire sidewalk flags around new pole bases, and ensuring operational streetlights each night with minimal downtime.
