OSHA CFR 1926.101.

L. Trenching or Excavation Operations – OSHA defines an excavation as any man-made cut, cavity, trench, or depression in the earth’s surface formed by earth removal. A trench is defined as a narrow underground excavation that is deeper than it is wide, and is no wider than 15 feet. Trenching must be overseen by a competent person trained on OSHA regulations for excavations, trenches, and soil mechanics. Utilities must be located, and protective systems must be in place (trench boxes, sloping) if necessary OSHA CFR 1926.650.

M. COVID Precaution - Ongoing COVID-19 concerns require the use of face protection and social distancing methods. Personnel should wash their hands regularly and maintain a minimum of six (6) feet of distance from other persons.
