About this file
This Questions & Answers document (#2) is from the Oregon Department of Forestry regarding ITB S-62900-00012487 for Wickiup Common Stand Exams 2025. The document specifically addresses a follow-up inquiry about down wood measurement requirements from a previous Q&A document. The key clarification provided is that down wood will be measured within a 1/10th acre fixed plot rather than using a transect method as previously indicated. The minimum length requirement for measuring down wood pieces is 6 feet, with any pieces under 6 feet in length not requiring measurement or recording.
The document corrects an earlier response that had referenced a transect-based piece count method, which caused confusion among potential bidders. This clarification impacts how contractors will need to approach the down wood measurement portion of the Common Stand Exams, which is part of the larger forest inventory project covering approximately 30,000 acres with 472 plots. No pricing information, set-asides, or other contractual terms are discussed in this Q&A document.

ITB S-62900-00012487 – Wickiup Common Stand Exams 2025 Q&A #2
ITB S-62900-00012487
Wickiup Common Stand Exams 2025
Questions & Answers #2
Follow-up inquiry from the irst Q&A document regarding response to Question 4. (italicized below):
What is the minimum length for tallying a down wood piece? Usually, a minimum of 10’ is used on CSE projects. Will that be the case here?
Since they are doing a Piece Count on a Transect, the piece is tallied if the diameter of the piece that falls along the transect meets the “intersection diameter” criteria speciied on the sample design. So, there is no minimum length if it crosses the transect line.
1. Paragraph 2.1.2.4 on page 29 states that down wood will be collected on a 1/10th acre plot. But your answer refers to a transect. Please clarify how the down wood is being sampled. If it is a transect, what is the length?
The minimum length of down wood to measure is 6 feet. Anything under 6 feet in length does not need to be measured or recorded. And there will not be a transect within the ixed plot.
