About this file
This document is a Bidders Questions and Answers (Q&A) document for Request for Proposal (RFP) #250000002585 issued by the Michigan Forest Resource Division, specifically involving the Huron-Manistee National Forest. The RFP solicits archaeological inventory and heritage survey services for specific forest areas, with a contract time spanning from contract award through January 15, 2026. The project requires comprehensive archaeological survey work, including pre-field research, Class I cultural resource inventories, site monitoring, and field investigations across multiple forest districts. All field work must be completed by November 15, 2025, with draft reports due by December 15, 2025, and final reports submitted by January 15, 2026.
The document reveals that the consultant will be responsible for conducting extensive research, including archival and informant data searches, geomorphological research, and site verifications. The Forest Service will provide shapefiles of work areas upon contract award and grant access to cultural resource records, though not all records are currently digitized. The contractor will need to use professional judgment in identifying and testing moderate and high probability areas, and will be expected to conduct comprehensive archaeological surveys using various methodologies such as metal detection and soil coring. No modifications to the contract timeline will be permitted, and the Forest Service has offices in Cadillac, Wellston, Baldwin, Mio, and Oscoda that may contain relevant historical records.
