About this file
This is a Questions and Answers document for solicitation W50S6V25Q0004 regarding a Defense Cyber Fly-Away Kit procurement for the Colorado Army National Guard.
The document clarifies technical specifications for a TSA carry-on compliant server and storage system that must fit within 22" x 14" x 9" dimensions. Key requirements include: a combined server and storage unit sharing the same case, 2x1 TB RAID and 240 TB RAID storage, minimum 2x 1G/10G RJ-45 copper interfaces, 64 cores and 1 TB of memory for hosting virtual servers. The government will provide all software and OS. Delivery is required within 60 days of award, quotes must be valid through September 30, 2024, and a 1-year warranty with critical component retention is required. The NextServerX2U TSA carryon FAK storage/server is confirmed as meeting the requirements. No funding is currently available and award is subject to funds availability per FAR 52.232-18.

Defense Cyber Fly-Away Kit Questions and Answers
Solicitation #: W50S6V25Q0004 www.SAM.gov
Q1. Are you using the 22 by 14 by 9 as the dimensions when you say TSA carryon. These are the official dimensions. If not, what dimensions are you using?
A1. Yes we are using the official dimensions.
Q2. Is the server and storage expected to fit in a single TSA carryon.
A2. Yes, they share the same case.
Q3. Is the requirement for a 2x1 TB raid and a 240 TB raid?
A3. Yes
Q4. The requirement has a minimum of 2x 1G/10G RJ-45 copper. Are the other two interface requirements optional?
A4. Yes
Q5. Is the requirement to have all of these interfaces in a single server, or is a switch acceptable?
Connecting one or multiple 1G/10G interfaces to a switch would give you more flexibility.
A5. We have access to a switch with 1G/10G interfaces.
Q6. Are the 64 Cores and 1 TB of memory supposed to be in a single server? This size server would not fit in a TSA-compliant carry-on.
A6. Yes, the server would be hosting a few virtual servers and would need to have that capacity.
Q7. The specification seems consistent with NextServerX2U TSA carryon FAK storage/server https://solutions.nextcomputing.com/datasheets/nextcomputing-hunt-forward-bare-metal-fak.pdf do you have a preferred manufacturer?
A7. No
Q8. The only discrepancy perhaps in wording is model above is 2U combined server and storage array is exactly as outlined except in (1) combined 2U unit as opposed to (2) separate 1U for server and 1U for storage-it adds up to the same, where the storage is in the upper 1U and the server is lower 1U and IO rear is in the combined 2U space.
A8. Similar statement as #Q12 (see below)
Q9. We also had some questions before we can provide a quote as it doesn’t mention the OS/hypervisor and if any Packet Continuum software is desired although it does mention packet/metadata recording capture A9. No OS is needed, we will provide all software.

Q10. Army’s Purchase Timeframe?
A10. Combined Synopsis/Solicitation - General Information Line #5. Presently there is no money available for this requirement and any award resulting from this solicitation is subject to the availability of funds IAW FAR 52.232-18. Line #6. Quotes must be valid through 30 September 2024.
Q11. Required Delivery Date?
A11. Within 60 days of ARO
Q12. NextServerX2U TSA carryon FAK storage/server https://solutions.nextcomputing.com/datasheets/nextcomputing-hunt-forward-bare-metal-fak.pdf
a. Can you please confirm that NextComputing’s 2U combined server and storage array will meet the Army’s requirement? NextComputing’s 2U combined server and storage array is exactly as outlined except in (1) combined 2U unit as opposed to (2) separate 1U for server and 1U for storage-it adds up to the same, where the storage is in the upper 1U and the server is lower 1U and IO rear is in the combined 2U space.
A12. This next computing flyaway kit meets our needs.
Q13. Can you also specify the OS/hypervisor and if our Packet Continuum software is desired although it does mention packet/metadata recording capture?
A13. Not desired.
Q14. It is impossible to supply (2) 1U appliances that meet the 35lb requirement for TSA carry on (commercial flights). Each 1U appliance (both server and storage) are coming in at 40lbs each (configured as directed). I’ll be happy to submit what I have, but they won’t fit in a TSA approved carry on case, due to being overweight. I would need to provide a 6U case that can handle the 80lbs, and it would have to be check-in type luggage. I have a 2U case that meets the requirements, but it is only rated for 50lbs (which is still more than TSA published weight limit of 35lbs).
A14. Required to fit in the official TSA carryon size of 22” x 14” x 9”.
Q15. Does the 1YR warranty and support include critical component retention for failed parts most often associated with classified mission data?
A15. Yes
Q16. Does the Government have any vendor operability requirements for the 1G/10G copper SFP modules? Ex: Mellanox, Dell, Cisco, etc.?
A16. No
Q17. What kind of fiber modules are being requested? Specifically, what is the connector type, fiber type (single or multimode), distance, and any other relevant requirements?
A17. No fiber requested https://solutions.nextcomputing.com/datasheets/nextcomputing-hunt-forward-bare-metal-fak.pdf
