Key details include the requirement for the contractor to comply with AISC certification and AWS D1.5 welding certification, the incidental nature of the small amount of concrete work, the lack of a specification for the metal flashing at the curb, and the clarification that the existing utility lines are not directly supported by the center bridge span and will be or have been relocated by others.

S-73000-00011907 Skipanon River Bridge (BR1400) Span 2 Replacement Questions and Answers – 11/18/1024

1. Will the steel fabricator need AISC certification for this project? If not, will D1.1 welder certification suffice?

Contractor must comply with Standard Specification 560.30 (AISC is required) and 560.26(a) (AWS D1.5 is required for bridge welding).

1. There is a small amount of concrete on this project. Which bid item includes the concrete?

The notes on J01 calls out “Provide Commercial Grade Concrete for all concrete.” Standard Specification 440.90 makes this incidental.

1. There is metal flashing at the curb of the timber deck mounted thrie beam rail. We could not find a spec for the flashing in the special provisions or the standard specifications. Is there a spec for the flashing? What gauge is the flashing? Is the gauge hot dipped galvanized?

No. There is no specification or pay item. This was intended to be a commercially available product.

1. Concrete is shown to be placed on the structure, there appears not to be a corresponding bid item for this work.

Answered above.

1. Can as-builts of the existing structure be provided.

As-built drawings have been uploaded to the attachments tab.

1. Shown on the drawings specifically on J03, the existing utility lines are to remain in place during construction. Based on review of the project site, these utility lines are being supported by the existing superstructure steel span with brackets. Will the contractor be required to temporarily support the utility lines during construction? Are new supports from the new steel super structure be required to support these utility lines?

It is ODOT’s understanding that the water and sewer lines (City of Warrenton) are not directly supported by the center bridge span and allow enough clear space for the completion of work. The remainder of the utilities will be or have been relocated by others.
