About this file

This file contains equipment specifications for the CBM Bituminous Chemistry Lab, a division of an unspecified state or local agency requiring procurement of a new pyrolytic cleaning oven. The lab seeks equipment equivalent to the PIE2 pyrolytic cleaning oven with a minimum internal capacity of 5.2 cubic feet, designed to remove asphaltic residues and other organic contaminants from laboratory glassware and metal equipment. The oven must operate on 30-amp single phase 240V, 60Hz power and feature a two-stage cleaning process combining pyrolysis for chamber cleaning with oxidation for exhaust treatment. The equipment specifications include an automatic programmed cleaning cycle, comprehensive safety features including chamber and oxidizer high-temperature shutoffs, manual kill switches, automatic door interlocks, reinforced doors with safety kill switches, and blast door protection. All interior and exterior construction must be stainless steel to facilitate maintenance.

The procurement requires the selected vendor to provide full installation and operator training as part of the contract deliverables. The specifications note that the reference to the PIE2 brand is intended to establish quality and performance standards rather than restrict competition, and bidders may submit "or equal" alternative products if they can demonstrate functional equivalence. The burden of proof regarding product equality rests with the bidder, who must document that any proposed alternative meets the stated performance requirements and suitability for removing asphaltic and other organic residues from the specified labware materials.

• Equivalent to the PIE² pyrolytic cleaning oven.

• Minimum 5.2 cubic feet internal capacity.

• 30-amp Single Phase 240 V, 60Hz.

• Two stage process to clean the oven contents (pyrolysis) as well as the exhaust (oxidation).

• Capable of complete removal of asphaltic and other organic residues from a variety of labware types (glass, metal).

• Automatic programmed cleaning cycle.

• Safety features: chamber high temp shut off, oxidizer high temp shut off, manual kill switch, automatic door interlock so that door cannot be opened while a burn cycle is running, reinforced oven door & oven door safety kill switch, blast door & blast door kill switch.

• All stainless-steel construction (interior & exterior) for ease of maintenance.

• Installation of oven must be included.

• Training in its operation must be included.

*Please Note: The use of a brand name is for the purpose of describing the standard of quality, performance, and characteristics desired and is not intended to limit or restrict competition.

"Or equal" submissions will not be rejected because of minor differences in design, construction or features that do not affect the suitability of the product for its intended use.

Burden of proof that the product is equal is on the bidder.
