PROJECT DESCRIPTION/SERVICES REQUESTED

Solar Powered Facilities: The purpose of the project is to convert Office of Passenger Transportation (OPT) facilities (bus terminals) in Benton Harbor, Pontiac, and Southfield to all electric HVAC systems (heat & cooling and hot water) and power the entire facilities systems with solar energy using solar panels and battery backup, as much as feasible. These facilities range in square footage from 1500 to 5,000 sf, with exterior lighting, waiting rooms, offices, storage rooms and a bathroom for each gender, plus each facility will need future power for electric sidewalks.

The design team will work with OPT to obtain electrical and natural gas usage reports, any utility subsidies, and any programs offered by the utility providers to determine viability of goal. This project’s goal is to provide the state with a future cost savings in utility costs, assist in green initiatives, and assist in the utility’s requirements for renewable energy requirements.

Heated Sidewalks: Replace existing sidewalks around Office of Passenger Transportation (OPT) bus terminals with heated sidewalks to eliminate staff maintenance and reduce liability from pedestrian slip and fall accidents.

mailto:ananichs@michigan.gov

Provide heated sidewalks at the Benton Harbor facility (approximately 2,000 sf) and at the Southfield facility (approximately 5,000 sf – including ramp and stairs). No heated sidewalks at Pontiac location.

Overhang: OPT’s Benton Harbor facility needs an 800 square feet overhang installed above the load and unload bus drop-off area. The overhang would attach to an existing overhang structure on one side and be supported by steel posts on foundation on the other side, extending to the northeast.

The Professional Services Contractor (PSC) is to provide Phase 400 Preliminary Design, Phase 500 Final Design / Bidding Documents, Phase 600 Construction Administration – Office Services, and Phase 700 Construction Administration – Field Inspection Services.
