About this file

This is a Prior Bid Questions document issued by Gordon County, Georgia, addressing bidder inquiries related to a bridge repair project on Slate Mine Road at Pine Log Creek. The project encompasses concrete spall repair, bridge painting, rip-rap placement, deck joint cleaning and resealing, bearing realignment, anchor bolt repair, and bridge raising operations. The scope includes raising an existing bridge by the minimum amount necessary to remove and reset bearing assemblies and replace existing bent caps while maintaining traffic. Key construction requirements specify that contractors must use hydraulic jacks placed under beams at each bent, supported on false bents or cribbing, with a maximum differential height of 1.5 inches between spans. Contractors may submit proposed alternate construction sequences for approval. Shop drawings containing the proposed repair procedure, sequence of operations, temporary supports, and jacking plans must be submitted for acceptance, either stamped by a Georgia Professional Engineer or including sufficient detail for county review and acceptance.

The document clarifies several technical specifications and scope limitations through answers to seven pre-bid questions. Rip-rap locations are to be determined by the engineer based on site conditions at Bent 2 pier wall footer and forward bank, with no requirement for the contractor to regrade the existing slope prior to placement. The existing slope is not to be regraded, and the contractor is responsible for removing and disposing of all materials from existing bridge structures at locations off-site. Asphalt repairs are excluded from the scope; contractors must sawcut existing asphalt overlay only. Bearing realignment and anchor bolt repair are associated with spall repair locations and may be completed per Activity 830.17 or by contractor-proposed alternate methods. All costs for bridge raising, including labor, materials, equipment, temporary shoring, clearing, grading, excavation, and material disposal, are included in the lump sum bid price for spall repairs and bearing/anchor bolt work under Item No. 518.
