Above-grade conduit must transition to rigid galvanized steel (RGS) using PVC to RGS couplers, and pull lines must be installed in all new conduit runs. Soil and backfill materials must meet specific ASTM standards for select backfill, asphalt/concrete base course, base gravel, and sand cushion. Backfill placement must occur in layers not exceeding 8 inches for heavy equipment or 4 inches for hand-operated tampers, with compaction to 85% of maximum dry unit weight per ASTM D 1557.
