About this file

This is a Questions and Answers document addressing technical specifications for a steel sheet storage system utilizing cassette/cartridge racks. All sheets must be sized at 4' x 8', with cassettes designed to accommodate this standard dimension. The storage system will hold mild steel ranging from 1/16" thickness up to ½" armor plate, with bundles varying in thickness and weight as long as each remains within the 5,000 lb. capacity per cassette and maintains a 2.5" to 3" stack height for loading and unloading operations.

The system shall incorporate 8 to 9 shelves within a 6' overall height to accommodate proper spacing for material stack height and forklift clearance. A removeable pin, flange, or lip to prevent material from sliding off the racks/cassettes is preferred but not required. The main rack structure should be painted black with shelves painted red, yellow, or orange; however, paint color appears to be a preference rather than a mandate. No depalletizer, liner protection, or galvanization is required, as the equipment will initially be used outdoors before relocation to a covered storage building.
