About this file

This is a Question and Answer document for RRC Astronomy Dome project PPCC DQ 16-789, addressing specifications and construction details for the observatory installation. The project requires one PD-15 PRO-DOME Observatory with a height of 8 feet and diameter of 15 feet, including fiberglass dome components, motorized electric shutter, electric rotation capability, and power supply. Seven matching fiberglass wall rings (WR-15), each 12 inches tall with door and hardware, are needed to achieve the required 7-foot wall height. The document clarifies that the concrete slab foundation measures 4 to 6 inches thick and is an existing structure from a previous dome installation.

The document does not address pricing terms, contract duration, or funding sources. Notably, specific engineering documentation confirming that the existing concrete slab has been engineered to support the astronomy dome load and account for wind uplift is not available, presenting a potential structural consideration for the project.

RRC Astronomy Dome

PPCC DQ 16-789

Question/Answer

1. The wall ring for the PD-15 are 12” tall. How many of the wall ring are you needing on for this dome?

The wall needs to be 7’-0” high, so seven wall rings are required. The following are the required parts.

1 of PD-15 PRO-DOME Observatory, includes fiberglass pieces for dome, shutter and base ring, and all hardware for installation. Also include motorized electric shutter, electric rotation and power supply. Ht =8½’ Dia. = 15'. 7 of WR-15 Matching fiberglass wall ring, 12” high, with door and hardware.

2. What is the thickness of the concrete slab for the Astronomy Dome?

The slab is 4 to 6 inches thick.

3. Has the concrete slab for the Astronomy dome been engineered for the load of the astronomy dome and also any uplift from winds?

The slab is existing from a previous dome. Specific engineering information is not available.
