About this file

This document is a Pilot Locker Requirements/Specifications for Aircrew Flight Equipment (AFE) storage. The government requires 82 lockers total, consisting of 64 single-tier units (20 units of 3-wide configuration with 60 total lockers at 54"x18"x72" and 4 units of 1-wide configuration with 4 total lockers at 18"x18"x72") and 18 double-tier units (2 units of 3-wide configuration with 12 total lockers at 54"x18"x72" and 3 units of 1-wide configuration with 6 total lockers at 18"x18"x72"). The lockers must be constructed from industrial-grade wood with premier high-pressure laminate that is stain and scratch resistant, featuring European soft-close hinges with matching edge banding and padlock hasps. No self-locking or electronic locks are required; lockers must remain unlocked for AFE technician access.

Each locker configuration requires specific interior features: Shelf 1 (approximately 18"x18"x18" for helmet storage), Shelf 2 (approximately 18"x18"x8" for personal belongings), and a hanging bar or metal pole (2" diameter, 3-4 inches below the second shelf with no sharp edges) plus two metal hooks (positioned 8-12 inches from the top on left and right sides for hanging helmet bags, flight jackets, and CSU-13b/p anti-G garments). Acceptable colors are Carbon Mesh Black (preferred) or Silver Teakwood (optional). The room layout is 276"x224" with approximately 38 inches spacing between lockers. The specification notes require 4 corner spacers for left wall corner lockers and 11 additional 18"x18"x72" lockers for room completion if not pre-installed. The specification references eight technical orders from the U.S. Air Force relating to aircrew flight equipment and personnel restraint systems.
