About this file
This is a technical specification document for dorm room door replacement and modification work at MSHA facilities. The project requires replacing two door frames and doors in rooms B11 and B13 to meet ADA accessibility guidelines. The current doors provide only 29 inches of clearance, but ADA compliance mandates a minimum clear opening width of 32 inches when the door is open 90 degrees, measured between the face of the door and the opposite stop per Section 404.2.3 of the ADA Standards. The dormitory features 8-inch concrete walls with rough room door openings of 36.25 inches.
The door frames and doors must be fire-rated for a minimum of 60 minutes. Automatic door openers will be integrated into the existing access control system and operated by PIV cards programmed through the dormitory registration desk Lenel system. Dedicated power circuits for the automatic openers must be installed from the main dorm hallway to the B hallway stairwell serving both rooms, spanning approximately 175 feet through drop leaf ceiling and concrete wall construction. The electrical system consists of a General Electric Type NLAB Style 5 panel rated at 225 amps, 120/208 volts, 3-phase. The solicitation number is 1605C4-26-R-00023, issued by the Department of Labor Office of the Assistant Secretary for Administration and Management. A site survey is recommended prior to work commencement.
