Performance Work Statement / Statement of Work:

General Information:

Background and Purpose: The USDA, Agricultural Research Service (USDA-ARS) requires the basic need for supply purchase of Cone Planter Upgrades. The Soil and Water Management Research unit (SWMRU) at the ARS laboratory in Bushland Texas does extensive research on dryland and irrigated production systems. Cotton is routinely a subject of investigation. In collaboration with Kansas State University, Texas A&M AgriLife, Texas Tech University and West Texas A&M University, a major effort is being launched in which research results are needed to better understand the interaction between cotton genetics and environment (different locations on a north-south gradient from Lubbock, Texas to Colby, Kansas. This research requires a large number of plots per experiment/location. Typically cropping research at Bushland utilizes six row pots. However, for this study, 4 row plots will work better.

The location has an under-used 4 row John Deere (JD) planter (MaxEmerge XP planter). However, the seed boxes on this planter does not facilitate planting small plants with different cotton varieties/ germplasm. The desired outcome from this procurement action is the purchase of after-market equipment that will facilitate the precise planting of small plots. The Cone Planter Upgrades is a necessity to preserve the required research studies located at the Conservation and Production Research Laboratory (CPRL), 2300 Experiment Station Road, Bushland, Texas 79012.
