About this file

This document outlines performance criteria for a Double Tilt Cooling/Heating/Biasing Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM) Holder, dated 08/05/2025. The detailed specifications include technical requirements such as greater than 10% transmission up to 5 GHz in the RF line, cooling to less than 120 K at the specimen, alpha and beta tilt ranges of -18 to +23 degrees, less than 2 nm/min drift at room and cryo temperatures, and better than 1.5 Angstrom spatial resolution in a Spectra 300 STEM. Additional requirements mandate the microscope column reach operational vacuum within 15 minutes, compatibility with Thermo Fisher touch alarm safety circuit, and adaptability to standard 3mm TEM grid size.

The performance criteria are part of a solicitation (Number 5-B175-Q-00677-00) by Argonne National Laboratory, under the Department of Energy Office of Science, seeking a specialized TEM holder. Vendors are required to submit proposals by August 13, 2025, at 5:00 PM CST, with questions to be directed to jdoria@anl.gov by August 08, 2025, at 12:00 PM CST. Proposals must be quoted in USD using DAP Incoterms for international shipping or FOB Destination for domestic shipments, and must include details such as lead time, country of origin, and completed representations and certifications.

Performance criteria

08/05/2025

• Greater than 10% transmission up to 5 GHz in the RF line, to be tested using a vector network analyzer with 50 Ohm impedance test chip loaded

• Cooling to less than 120 K at the specimen

• Alpha tilt -18 to +23 degrees and beta tilt ± 23 degrees in the microscope with no apertures inserted (Beta tilt does not have to be RF compatible)

• Less than 2 nm/min drift at both room and cryo temperatures, to be tested with evaporated gold calibration sample

• Better than 1.5 Angstrom spatial resolution in Spectra 300 STEM at both room and cryo temperatures, to be tested with evaporated gold calibration sample

• Microscope column reaches operational vacuum condition within ~15 minutes of inserting holder after a pre-pumping cycle of up to 10 minutes

• Compatible with Thermo Fisher touch alarm safety circuit

• Must be able to be compatible (or adaptable) with standard 3mm TEM grid size.
