About this file

This document is a Purchase Description for three line shaft vertical turbine pumps for the Mud Mountain Dam Fish Passage Facility in Enumclaw, WA. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers seeks to replace existing pumps due to impeller erosion, requiring new pumps with specific technical specifications including vertical turbine single, two, or three-stage impeller type design, capable of pumping turbid water with potential debris, and meeting a flow of 2.0 CFS at a 45 ft static head. The pumps must have an overall length not exceeding 13.11 ft, be constructed in accordance with AWWA E101, and include electric motors rated 480V, 3-phase, 60 Hz, with TEFC and VFD-compatibility.

Key delivery and procurement details include a delivery deadline of 1 June 2025, FOB destination to the Mud Mountain Dam Fish Passage Facility, and specific component requirements such as stainless steel, bronze, and cast iron materials for various pump assemblies. The procurement will involve completely new equipment, with manufacturers required to provide operation and maintenance manuals, and all components covered by a manufacturer's warranty. Delivery is restricted to business hours (Monday-Friday, 7:00am - 3:00pm), excluding federal holidays, with the contractor required to contact the Project Manager ten days prior to any pending deliveries.

Purchase Description Vertical Turbine Pumps for High Head Tank

Mud Mountain Dam Fish Passage Facility

1.0 GENERAL INFORMATION: The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will be replacing three

(3) existing vertical turbine pumps due to erosion of the impellers. Three (3) Line shaft vertical turbine pumps, motors and base plates need to be procured and delivered to the Mud Mountain Dam Fish Passage Facility in Enumclaw, WA.

Existing Electrical infrastructure: All electrical components IE (disconnects, VFD, breakers, wiring, etc) were sized according to the national electrical code to meet the demands of the existing pump motors. Motor data is identified in attachment A.

2.0 SPECIFICATIONS:

Each pump shall have the following specifications:

Vertical turbine single, two or three stage impeller type pumps.

Liquid pumped: Water that will not exceed 70 degrees F, will be relatively turbid, and may contain sand, silt, and vegetative trash no greater then 1/16th of an inch.

Head: 45 ft Flow: not less then 2.0 CFS to a static head of 45 ft Pumps shall be capable of discharging quantities of water at maximum pump speed and total pump head with the minimum efficiency indicated.

Overall length of the turbine pump (including column, bowl, and discharge head) shall not be greater than 13.11 ft.

Pump width shall not exceed below dimensions.

Shall be constructed in accordance with AWWA E101 except as modified. Pumps shall be designed for flanged discharge and mate up to existing plumbing.

Pump head assembly shall consist of the pump baseplate, the discharge head and the driver.

Pump discharge head and baseplate shall be capable of withstanding all end and side thrusts imposed by the pump during operation and have adequate strength to resist vibration at any operating speed.

All necessary bolts, nuts, washers, bolt sleeves and other types of attachments for the installation of the equipment shall be furnished with the equipment.

Provide drain holes for all parts of the pump to eliminate trapped water. They shall be self- draining without any requirement to enter the sump.

Commented [GVVCUC(1]: Is there a width constraint? If so should identify.

All motors, pump casings, and similar parts of equipment customarily finished in the shop shall be given coats of paint filler and enamel, or other acceptable treatment customary with the manufacturer and suitable for the intended service. Ferrous surfaces obviously not to be painted shall be given a shop coat of grease or other suitable rust-resistant coating.

The pump must be assembled at the manufacturer's plant to assure proper fitting and alignment of all parts. Tolerances cannot exceed those specified or shown on the manufacturing drawings. Check rotating elements for binding. The suction bell, impeller housing, diffuser, and the discharge elbow must be properly match marked and have their centerlines clearly marked on the outside of all flanges to facilitate erection and alignment in the field. Matchmark all parts disassembled for shipment.

Pump Driver o Provide with ball or roller bearings of adequate strength to carry the hydraulic thrust of the pump impellers and the weight of all rotating parts. If there is potential for pump upthrust during any operation of the pump, the drive shall be designed to withstand this upthrust. Motor shall be connected to the pump shaft through a solid coupling that incorporates provisions for vertical adjustment of the impellers. Vertical solid shaft motor drivers shall be sized to transmit the maximum horsepower required by the pump over the entire operating range of the pump. A nonreversible ratchet device shall be incorporated to prevent reverse rotation of the pump and line shafts of pumps with settings of 50 feet or more.

Bowl assembly with the following specifications:

o Bowl connection type: flanged o Bowl material: Stainless steel o Bowl bearings: bronze o Bowl bolting material: Stainless Steel o Impeller material: Stainless o Impeller collets: Stainless o Bowl shaft material: stainless o Suction bell material: stainless

Column assembly with the following specifications o Column pipe material: carbon steel o Flanged column o Lineshaft lubrication: injection lube, municipal clean water o Lineshaft material: Stainless o Lineshaft journals: hard faced o Sleeved lineshaft o Bearing journal hard facing: chrome o Lineshaft coupling material: 416 SS

Discharge head assembly meeting the following specifications:

o 8-inch x 12-inch – “A” head o Discharge head material: cast iron o Discharge head flange rating: 125# o Shaft sealing arrangement: injection lube stuffing box w/tension nut o Tension plate material: cast iron o Driver shaft coupling: rigid flanged adjustable non-spacer o Shall include a pressure gauge of the direct- reading type, equipped with a shut-off cock and snubber. Pressure gauge shall be calibrated in PSI and feet of water in not more then 2 psi and 5 foot increments. Rating point shall be at approximately the mid-point of the scale

Electric motors o Each electric motor-driven pump shall be driven by a totally-enclosed fan cooled vertical continuous-duty electric motor conforming to NEMA MG 1. Motor shall have a 1.15 service factor. Motors shall be squirrel-cage induction motors having normal-starting-torque and low-starting-current characteristics and shall be of sufficient size so that the nameplate horsepower rating will not be exceeded throughout the entire published pump characteristic curve. Motor bearings shall provide smooth operations under the conditions encountered for the life of the motor. Adequate thrust bearing shall be provided in the motor to carry the weight of all rotating parts plus the hydraulic thrust and shall be capable of withstanding upthrust imposed during pump starting and under variable pumping head conditions specified. Motors shall be rated 480 volts, 3 phase, 60 Hz and such rating stamped on the nameplate.

o Motors shall be compatible with existing electrical infrastructure and be compatible with variable frequency drive operation. Drawings of existing electrical infrastructure do not exist. However, as noted in Section 1.0, existing electrical infrastructure was sized to meet the demands of the existing pump motors. Existing pump motor data is identified in attachment A.

3.0 WARRANTY: All components shall be covered by a manufacturer’s warranty on all parts.

4.0 OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE MANUALS: Operation and Maintenance manuals will be provided for all equipment associated with this contract. Include in the manual the manufacturer's name, model number, service manual, parts list, and brief description of all equipment and their basic operating features. Also submit complete copies of maintenance manuals listing routine maintenance procedures, possible breakdowns and repairs, and troubleshooting guide.

5.0 ACCEPTANCE OF MATERIALS: Materials will be inspected at the delivery point prior to acceptance. Contractor shall be responsible for maintaining the product’s condition as specified until the point of acceptance. New equipment only; no remanufactured or “gray market” items.
