PATEC Assembly Instructions
The following instructions are for the assembly of Case 1 and Case 2 that make up the PATEC Core. Additional hardware including the manufacture of blank plates may be necessary to fill any gaps in order to complete the installation for each case. Diagrams and photographs are included for illustrative purposes and minor deviations to these instructions may be necessary to accomplish the installations, contact this office for clarification or deviation approval.
Installation of the AC Power Strip.
If the AC Power Strip is mounted in a fixed position in the ECS 7000 Series Rackmount Case determine if it is located in the best position for accessibility. If it isn’t then use your best judgement in determining where the AC Power Strip should be located. One possible location may be to mount the AC Power Strip in the rear of PATEC Core Case 2 on the rack above the RF Microwave Signal Generator. This should allow for sufficient space to access the connections to all of the test equipment items installed in Case 2.
Refer to Photo 1, below.
Photo 1. Example of an AC Power Strip mounted in the Rear of PATEC Core Case 2.
Installation of Drawers in PATEC Core Cases 1 and 2
If the drawers do not come installed in either of the ECS 7000 Series Rackmount Cases then install the 3.5-inch Drawer on the rack at the top of Case 1 and the 7-inch Drawer on the rack at the top of Case 2.
NOTE: The 3.5-inch Drawer may actually measure 3.47-inches and the 7-inch Drawer may actually measure 6.97-inches. However, for simplicity purposes they are being referenced as the 3.5-inch Drawer and the 7-inch Drawer, respectively, in this document.
Photo 2. Example of the 7-inch Drawer in Case 2 extended with Slides Installed.
Installation of Equipment in PATEC Core Cases 1 and 2
NOTE: The photos in this document may show previous versions of the test equipment standards, however, the newer versions should be dimensionally the same and fit into the same space as the previous version.
Installation of Equipment in PATEC Core Case 1
Install the equipment in PATEC Core Case 1 per the diagram below.

From top to bottom: 3.5-inch drawer, Pendulum / Spectracom CNT-91R/AF Universal Counter, Fluke 9500B/3200 Oscilloscope Calibrator, North Atlantic Instruments (NAI) Inc. 8810A Angle Position Indicator, Fluke 5730A Multifunction Calibrator.
Drawer: Power Sensors (Qty 3, P/N N5532B), Power Sensor Adapters (Qty 6, leave in protective cylinder, mounted vertically to save space), 11667A or 1870A Microwave Power Splitter (DC to 18 GHz), 8491B-010 10 dB Fixed Attenuator (DC to 18 GHz), 8496B Coaxial Step Attenuator (DC to 18 GHz), and Signal Generator RF Adapters (Qty 2). Soft polyurethane foam shall be cut to provide a solid floor of at least 0.5 inches and a surrounding layer about each item to isolate them from each other. No item shall lie within 0.5 inches of any other item in any direction. NOTE: The Power Sensor Adapters are an option that was added by the customer for their use and do NOT come standard with the purchase of a PATEC.
Support Rails Case 1: Support rails shall be used as appropriate for mounting the Oscilloscope Calibrator and Multifunction Calibrator units. Support rails are not required for the Universal Counter or Angle Position Indicator as these items may rest on the unit directly beneath them.
