About this file
This Scope of Work document is for the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA), specifically the Center for Analytical Chemistry (CAC), soliciting an automated extraction system for processing solid environmental samples. The project, identified by reference number P24-1273, requires a contractor to provide a specialized extraction system capable of processing various solid samples including soil, sediment, foliage, and cannabis. The system must be able to perform dual solid phase and pressurized fluid extraction, process a minimum of 12 samples in series within 3 hours, and have the capability to program up to 24 samples simultaneously. Key technical requirements include a compact design (no larger than 14.25" W x 25.53" D x 27.93" H), ability to run up to 12 cycles on a single sample, compatibility with multiple solvents, and operation on standard 120v or 240v power.
The contractor will be responsible for system delivery, training, and ensuring the extraction system meets all specified technical requirements. CDFA will provide laboratory space, install the instruments, and serve as the primary point of contact through the Contract Manager, Michael S. Gross. The scope does not specify pricing, contract duration, or funding sources, focusing instead on detailed technical specifications for the extraction system. The document outlines specific operational capabilities required, such as the ability to add various sorbents and cleanup components, run different sample methods within a single batch, and operate without external nitrogen or air sources.

Scope of Work
Extraction System
CENTER FOR ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY (CAC)
P24-1273
1. INTRODUCTION
The Contractor shall provide an automated extraction system for the processing of solid samples by the Environmental Analysis section of CAC. Samples include soil, sediment, foliage, and cannabis.
2 . CONTRACTOR REQUIREMENTS
• Delivery of system.
• Deliver items related to this purchase order (PO) between 8:00 AM and 4:30 PM
• Include on the Packing Slip: CAC / PO number to ensure proper delivery
• Ensure proper training for the operation of the system.
3. INSTRUMENT REQUIREMENTS (Individual System)
• Ability to perform an automated dual solid phase extraction and pressurized fluid extraction of any solid or semi-solid sample type and include a preprogramed library of methods.
• Ability to process a minimum of 12 samples in series in as little as 3 hours with the capability to program up to 24 samples at a time.
• One extraction vessel capable of running both smaller and larger sample sizes.
Eliminating the need to stock multiple vessel types.
• The ability to add sorbents and cleanup components such as salt, C18, carbon black, sand and diatomaceous earth for in situ sample extraction and clean up.
• A sequential system with the ability to process different samples and methods within a 12-sample run. The system must not require batching samples.
• It can run up to 12 cycles on a single sample.
• Being compact as to minimize benchtop footprint and be no larger than 14.25”
(36.20cm) W X 25.53” (64.85) D X 27.93” (70.94cm)
• An extraction vessel should consist of no more than 2 parts and require no tools or additional parts (i.e. O-rings) to assemble.
• Operation via standard 120v or 240v power.
• A solvent array capable of up to 6 solvents being loaded on the system at a time.
Compatible with a wide range of organic and aqueous solvents and solvent mixtures.
• Not requiring an external source of nitrogen or air for purging or water for cooling.
4. CDFA RESPONSIBILITIES
• CDFA will receive instruments and provide space to house instruments in the laboratory with proper benchtop and electrical requirements met
Scope of Work
• CDFA will install instruments
5. CDFA CONTACT INFORMATION
