Vendor Questions:

What is the total square footage of the areas needing insulation replaced? Vendor to field verify all measurements but approximately 6450SF

Also what is the preferred R-Value you would like met? Current insulation is R23 (5.5 inches) kraft paper face. Would like to maintain this value at minimum

Looking at the picture I am guessing that the current R-Value is around 25R. The state of Kansas recommends for the area the buildings are located in to be around 46R. I just wanted to verify if they wanted the new insulation to meet the minimum requirements or to meet what the state recommends. Height of ceiling joist is 5.5 inches insulation selection is limited to this height. If vendor has product that can fit in the void between ceiling joists and provide a higher R value it may be acceptable. Product would have to have the following characteristics reversible, fit within void and not damage existing historic fabric.

Why do you need to have the insulation removed? Yes removal of existing is required. Insulation is to fit within the void of the ceiling joist as described in earlier replies. If a new insulation is installed on top of existing it would no longer be contained in this void.

Would it be more cost effective to blow in new insulation increasing the r factor that way? Height of ceiling joist is 5.5 inches insulation selection is limited to this height. If vendor has product that can fit in the void between ceiling joists and provide a higher R value it may be acceptable. Product would have to have the following characteristics reversible, fit within void and not damage existing historic fabric.
