1 Redwood National and State Parks – RFP P15PS00109, Newton B. Drury Scenic Parkway Exhibits

SECTION C

DESCRIPTION/SPECIFICATIONS/WORK STATEMENT

1. BACKGROUND

Redwood National and State Parks, located along the Northern California Coast, are home to some of the world's tallest trees: old-growth coast redwoods. They can live to be 2000 years old and grow to over 300 feet tall. Spruce, hemlock, Douglas-fir, berry bushes, and sword ferns create a multiple canopied understory that towers over all visitors. The parks' mosaic of habitats include prairie/oak woodlands, mighty rivers and streams, and 37 miles of pristine Pacific coastline. Cultural landscapes reflect American Indian history. More recent logging history has led to much restoration of these parks.

Three California state parks and the National Park Service unit represent a cooperative management effort of the National Park Service and California Department of Parks and Recreation. They are Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park, Del Norte Coast Redwoods State Park, Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park, and Redwood National Park, comprising 45 percent of all the old-growth redwood forest remaining in California.

Together these parks are a World Heritage Site and International Biosphere Reserve, protecting resources cherished by citizens of many nations.

This project replaces outdated and unsightly wayside exhibits along a 10-mile stretch of the Newton B. Drury Scenic Parkway with compelling, interactive, accessible and engaging interpretive exhibits.

2. PURPOSE

The purpose of this contract is to collaborate with Redwood National and State Parks (RNSP) to further develop current designs and fabricate exhibits that are engaging for all visitors, safe for families and small children, and accessible for people with disabilities.

Exhibits must be built extremely durably to hold up with minimal routine maintenance in an unstaffed outdoor environment in Coastal Northern California.

3. SCOPE OF WORK

Independently, and not as an agent of the government, the contractor shall provide all design-build exhibit services including labor, materials, equipment, facilities, and travel (except as otherwise specified in this contract) necessary to provide RNSP) with the development of museum interpretive exhibit design, fabrication, and installation.

Exhibits include, but are not limited to, outdoor graphic panels and custom frames, tactile models, full-sized corten steel cut outs, dimensional maps and displays, topographic maps, illustration, audio components, and associated structural elements such as wayside bases, platforms, and other display support structures.

The scope of work includes final design development, production, and installation of outdoor interpretive exhibits. The contractor is responsible for all work required under this
