Scope of Work
Install VAV Boxes Surgery Storage 667-25-185 I.
Statement of Work Overton Brooks VAMC has a requirement to correct temperature and humidity excursions in Surgery’s sterile storage rooms due to inadequate Heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) zone control. Contractor is required to install two new Variable Air Volume boxes and associated control devices to prevent the existing temperature and humidity issues from occurring again. Refer to project drawings for additional information.
Contractor must install the new VAV boxes inside surgery suite. The existing drop-down ceiling will have to be disassembled and reinstalled to perform the VAV installation. Install VAV box to minimize the need to relocate elements above ceiling to accommodate new installation and relocate elements as needed. Ensure service clearance is provided for new install. Contractor is required to tie into existing heating hot water system and add new dedicated isolation valves for the reheat coil. As shown on drawings all control devices such as thermostat, three-way control valve, and damper control must be included. All piping and terminal units must be braced, insulated, and securely mounted. New VAV box system must be connected to the existing building automation system to allow remote monitoring and control from the boiler plant. Reuse existing supply registers, fire dampers and branch dampers as needed to facilitate this work.
Contractor must follow all infection control risk assessment (ICRA) requirements outlined in the solicitation. It would be of beneficial for the contractor to use a mobile ICRA cart to perform the work to prevent disruption to patient care.
All work must be performed as specified herein and shall be in accordance with all applicable codes indicated in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Design Manuals and any other applicable codes. The Contractor must provide all necessary labor, materials, tools, equipment, licenses, permits, and services for completion of this project. The Contractor must be responsible for all damages to persons or property occurring as a result of the Contractor’s fault or negligence. The Contractor must be responsible for all materials delivered and work performed until completion and acceptance of the entire work.
II. Hours of Work:
All work must be performed after normal business hours (5:00pm to 4:00am) Monday through Friday, Federal Holidays excluded. Work can be performed anytime on Saturday and Sunday when approved by the medical center. Any required outages needed to perform the work, will be scheduled at the convenience of the hospital. Outages will be coordinated two weeks in advance of the required outage. Contractor must limit any HVAC outage to not exceed eight hours. Any HVAC outage exceeding 8 hours is not allowed.
III. Period of Performance The construction portion of this project will consist of two separate periods, each of which must be preceded by a NTP issued by contracting.
1. Pre-construction period – 45 Days – Contractor to provide the following deliverables before the end of this period:
1. Submittal log of all submittals to be approved during the course of the project
2. Written statement from manufacturer on material lead time to justify submittal period
3. All submittals which are to be approved by the VA COR.
2. Construction period – All contractually required work and tests must be successfully completed within 45 calendar days of issuance of Notice to Proceed for construction.
3. It is anticipated that 100% of work will be completed after normal duty hours which includes all mechanical modifications.
IV. Required Submittals
The below required submittals are in addition to the submittals required by the specifications. Refer to 01 33 23 SHOP DRAWINGS, PRODUCT DATA, and SAMPLES 1.

A. VAV boxes, isolation valves, and associated devices Submittals must be reviewed and approved by the VA prior to the start of work.
V. VA Requirements
Contractor is responsible for all necessary infection control measures to include, but not limited to dust partitions, walk-off mats, daily clean-up and final cleaning upon project completion. Contractor shall be responsible for removing all items demolished from the station. Contractor to work in accordance with the Infection Control Risk Assessment provide and in accordance with the General Requirements, Safety Requirements and Construction Waste Management specifications provided. Contractor shall follow all applicable Federal, State & Local Codes.
