Scope of Work – Perform Hydraulic Calculations and Tagging of all Zones 548-23-126 West Palm Beach VA Medical Center 7305 N Military Trail, West Palm Beach, Fl 33410

During recent Accreditation Surveys it was found that Fire Sprinkler Zones in building 1 and building 3 are missing NFPA required hydraulic calculations placards.

1. Contractor to provide all tools materials and equipment need to perform fire sprinkler hydraulic calculations for all zones located in buildings 1, 2, 3, 4, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 19, 21, 22. Several buildings do have some hydraulic calculations on drawings. The rest will need to be calculated by a fire sprinkler engineer.

2. Contractor will be provided a copy of the original as-built fire sprinkler drawings.

a. Existing as-built drawings will be made available to the CONTRACTOR; however, their accuracy along with survey, subsurface information and data is not guaranteed and shall be reviewed and verified by the CONTRACTOR as part of the investigative services.

b. Contractor shall review and Verify all existing documents for accuracy.

c. Verify and or calculate the hydraulics of each zone in the Main building and the CLC building.

3. Contractor will fabricate and install hydraulic calculation placards on each zone valve in buildings 1 , 2, 3, 4, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 19, 21, 22.

a. Each placard will include all information required by TJC, NFPA13 and VA guidelines.

b. NFPA 13 requires all hydraulically designed sprinkler systems to be appropriately labeled with a permanently marked weather-proof metal or rigid plastic sign secured with corrosion-resistant wire, chain, or other approved means.

c. Such signs shall be placed at the alarm valve, dry pipe valve, pre-action valve, or deluge valve supplying the corresponding hydraulically designed area.

a) These zones are designed by the calculations established and verified. The hydraulic calculation procedure deals with three very important aspects of a fire suppression system:

(i) If a fire occurs, how much water is required to extinguish it?

(ii) Is the available water supply enough?

(iii) What is the optimal layout of the piping system, and what friction losses are produced?

4. Each zone shall be tagged with the appropriate tag and fastening system per the VA guidelines, specifications and NFPA 13. Appendix A shows an appropriate tag.

a. Tag shall include and list:

i. Location of the design area or areas

ii. Discharge densities over the design area or areas.

iii. Required flow and residual pressure demand at the base of the riser.

iv. Occupancy classification or commodity classification and maximum permitted storage height and configuration

v. Hose stream allowance included in addition to the sprinkler demand

vi. The name of the installing contractor

b. Fastening

i. Tag shall be affixed to the zone at the proper location as per the VA specifications and Guidelines.

5. The Contractor shall provide a complete set of record dwgs. clearly delineating all fire sprinkler zones with the information attached for each zone.

a. Drawings shall be in accordance with all applicable requirements of the NFPA, EPA, OSHA, National Plumbing Code, National Electric Code, ASHRAE, National Safety Code, VA Specifications, VA Standard Details, VA Construction Standards (match existing site materials), VA Space Planning Criteria PG-18-9, and applicable local, state, and federal regulations.

6. Contractor employees shall be required to maintain a professional appearance including a shirt bearing the company logo. All contractor employees will be required to acquire, and wear approved Medical Center Contractor badge. Per Medical Center policy, badge must be visible and located above the waist.
