STATEMENT OF WORK
Lower Packaging Units for Unit Dose Packager
BACKGROUND:
The purpose of this requirement is to procure replacement Lower Packaging Units (LPU), which are a critical component to the current ATP2 located within the Inpatient Pharmacy operations at VA Medical Center (VAMC) Sheridan. These components provide efficiency to pharmacy operations reducing downtime. The Pharmacy operation currently only has one functioning LPU. Having more than one of these LPUs promotes flexibility in managing maintenance downtime scenarios.
PURPOSE:
Swappable LPUs are a workable redundancy option. Most of the moving critical parts of the ATP2 system are located within the LPU (where the sealing, printing of medication text, applying a perforated seam, and cutting of medication bags are performed). The LPU drawers are easily accessible and can be removed from the machine if needed for maintenance. If a LPU becomes inoperable, a backup LPU can be available to swap out with only a few-minutes of downtime. Since Pharmacy already has the ATP2 packager, training time will be greatly reduced with installing the additional packaging technology but also will provide the Pharmacy with improved workflow, coupled with patient-medication safety features. Some of these key attributes are detailed below:
| • | Swappable lower packaging unit for onsite redundancy to eliminate downtime |
| • | Graphic Printing (barcode printability being most important, but also ability to print in color, vertical, pictures, icons, logos, etc.) |
| • | Packaging system will use a clamp and seal system to efficiently seal pre-folded paper with a serrated edge to ensure pouches are produced with less errors and make it easy to access medications |
| • | Reporting capabilities giving users the ability to check user metrics and run audit reports (reporting must include ability to show who accessed the machine and performed what functions, and what has been verified by the Pharmacist) |
| • | Easy to use, cutting edge software for pouch label production and creation |
| • | On-site installation and training package performed by Vendor |
STATEMENT OF WORK:
The Vendor will deliver the equipment and provide all necessary labor, management, skills, materials, etc. required to install, train and maintain the automated unit dose medication dispensing machine described above. Installation activities to include the need for network access working in conjunction with IT department and BioMed as needed.
Any necessary files created during maintenance will not be saved via vendor. Retention of data will be on internal VA server only. All backup data will be completed, performed and maintained by Pharmacy service.
