1. Contracting Activity: Department of Veterans Affairs, VISN 04, Butler Medical
Center 353 N. Duffy Road Butler, PA 16001, for Mercer Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC), 1505 N. Hermitage Road Hermitage PA 16148, 529-25-3- 093-0780
2. Brief Description of Supplies/ Services required and the intended use/Estimated Amount: The Butler VAMC requires specialized ceiling suspended acoustical clouds for the activation of their new Mercer Community based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC). This procurement is brand name or equal to the Xorel Artform however, the specific fabric/finish for use on the acoustical clouds must be the Carnegie Xorel brand fabric.
3. Unique characteristics that limit availability to only one source, with the reason no other supplies or services can be used: The specified fabric is required due to its unique material composition and performance characteristics, which are essential for the use in the acoustical ceiling clouds at the new Mercer CBOC. Xorel fabric, manufactured by Carnegie, is a proprietary biobased textile that offers the following crucial attributes:
- Compliance with fire and safety codes, the fabric meets or exceeds all required flame retardancy standards and has been approved by patient safety for use in clinical environments.
- Antimicrobial and cleanability, the fabric is inherently antimicrobial and bleach-cleanable, which is critical for infection control in the healthcare environment. The woven polyethylene textile is durable and wear-resistant, eliminating the need for future replacement.
4. Description of market research conducted and results or statement why it was not conducted: Reviewed multiple manufactures for alternate fabric/textile product but the Xorel fabric is the only one with the necessary salient characteristics as listed above.
