About this file
This is a set of technical specifications and drawings for an elevator modernization project at Edward Hines VA Medical Center in Hines, IL. The project involves modernizing eight existing traction elevators (five passenger and three service elevators) in Building 200, as well as upgrading the elevator penthouse.
The specifications detail requirements for project scheduling, safety protocols, shop drawings, and construction procedures. The work will be performed in eight phases to maintain hospital operations, with each phase focusing on specific elevators. The project includes demolition, renovation of finishes, electrical upgrades, fire protection systems, and mechanical work. There are six alternate bid items including lobby renovations, elevator cab finishes, air handling unit replacements, hoistway equipment replacement, car sling replacement, and finish upgrades in elevator lobbies from basement to 14th floor. The contractor must maintain hospital operations 24/7 and coordinate all service interruptions with the COR. The project requires extensive safety measures, infection control, and dust containment. Construction is expected to begin in Fall 2025, and the estimated project value is between $10-20 million. All contractors must obtain facility-specific badging, which can take up to 4 weeks to process.
