About this file
This is an insurance requirements exhibit document issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) that establishes mandatory insurance coverage standards for awarded contractors. The document outlines the insurance specifications and compliance procedures that contractors must maintain throughout the entire contract term and any renewal or extension periods. Contractors are required to secure and maintain all specified insurance coverage prior to commencing work or entering Department of Transportation property. The insurance must remain in effect continuously with no lapses permitted during contract performance.
Contractors must obtain workers' compensation insurance sufficient to cover all employees in accordance with Commonwealth law, and comprehensive general liability and property damage insurance with minimum coverage limits of $250,000 per person and $1,000,000 per occurrence for both bodily injury (including death) and property damage. Automobile liability insurance must also be obtained where appropriate. All policies must be occurrence-based and must name the Commonwealth or Department as additional insured parties with provisions requiring at least thirty days' prior written notice of cancellation or material changes, except in cases of non-payment of premiums where fifteen days' notice applies. Contractors must provide current certificates of insurance to the Department prior to work commencement and must notify the Department immediately of any cancellation of coverage. Failure to maintain continuous insurance coverage will halt all work activities and prevent access to Department property.
