About this file

This is an insurance requirements exhibit (OS-52) from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation establishing mandatory coverage standards for contractors performing work on state transportation projects. The document specifies that the awarded contractor must obtain and maintain insurance coverage throughout the entire contract term and any renewals or extensions, with all policies issued by insurers licensed to conduct business in Pennsylvania. Insurance must be in effect prior to the contractor commencing work or entering Department of Transportation property.

The required insurance coverage includes workers' compensation insurance as mandated by Pennsylvania law, comprehensive general liability insurance, property damage insurance, and automobile liability insurance where applicable. Minimum coverage amounts are $250,000 per person and $1,000,000 per occurrence for both bodily injury (including death) and property damage, with coverage structured on an occurrence basis. The Commonwealth and Department must be named as additional insured parties on all policies, which must include cancellation provisions requiring thirty days' prior written notice to the Commonwealth or Department for cancellations or changes, except in cases of nonpayment where fifteen days' notice applies. The contractor must provide current certificates of insurance demonstrating required coverages and must notify the Department of any cancellation at any time. No work may proceed during periods when insurance is not maintained.
