About this file
This document is an Insurance Requirements Exhibit from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), outlining mandatory insurance specifications for contractors awarded a contract with the agency. The document requires the awarded contractor to purchase and maintain specific insurance coverages throughout the entire contract term, including any renewals or extensions, with insurance companies licensed to do business in Pennsylvania. The contractor must ensure insurance is in effect before commencing work or entering Department property.
The insurance requirements include two primary types of coverage: workers' compensation insurance to cover all employees performing contract work, and comprehensive general liability insurance with specific minimum coverage amounts. The liability insurance must provide $250,000 per person and $1,000,000 per occurrence for bodily injury, and the same amounts for property damage. The policies must be occurrence-based, name the Commonwealth or Department as an additional insured party, and include provisions for 30-day notice before cancellation (15 days for non-payment of premiums). The contractor must provide current insurance certificates to the Department and is prohibited from performing work during any period without maintained insurance.
