| LCATS | Mission | Background |
| Cognitive/Human Factors Engineer | Business Process Transformation | DoD business operations often rely on outdated technology or manually intensive, error prone, costly, and slow processes, resulting in a wealth of unexploited data resources, wasted labor hours, and gross inefficiencies. The potential for AI to transform DoD extends from the front lines to the back office. |
Transform DOD business processes through AI technologies that unleash the strategic power of DoD’s information to increase productivity and reduce costs.
| Full Stack Software Engineer | Joint Common Foundation | Enterprise cloud-enabled AI platform programs to bring modern DevSecOps practices to DoD |
| Operations Research and Systems Analyst (ORSA) | Joint Information Warfare | U.S. leadership in the cyber domain is critical to the future of U.S. national security. As an inherently digital environment, the cyber domain is well suited for data-intensive AI applications. |
Deliver an information advantage to the DoD and Joint Force by improving 1) the DoD’s ability to integrate leading commercial and government AI-enabled solutions and 2) standardization of foundational DoD data essential to fielding high-performing AI-enabled capabilities in support of future DoD operations in the information environment.
UI/UX Designer Joint Logistics The Department spends $78B annually on maintenance. Reducing maintenance costs and the time assets are not mission capable will increase operational readiness while freeing up funds to be used for other DoD priorities. Additionally, the Department collects vast quantities of data that could be used to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of maintenance operations, but has been unable to do so because the data is inaccurate, collected in non-standardized formats, or siloed.
This MI has been focused on Predictive Maintenance as its initial use-case. Beginning in April 2020, the JAIC is building upon lessons learned in this space to expand the MI into joint logistics.
Using the H-60 helicopter as a pilot, the JAIC and its partners have worked to identify and address key issues in a way that will not only improve H-60 operations, but also accelerate the adoption of AI-enabled maintenance and logistics applications for other platforms across the DoD. Going forward, this MI will focus on the development of AI-enabled solutions for priority applications in the other functions of logistics.
Technical Writer Joint Warfighter Algorithmic warfare is inevitable. Wars of the future will employ force across all domains in heavily contested and degraded environments. Those armed with AI-enabled advantages (decision, speed, agility, and strategy) will have a distinct operational advantage.
Integrate AI-enabled applications into systems, processes, and platforms to provide sustained competitive military advantage to the United States – with the objective to deter adversaries or, if deterrence fails, to fight and win. Under JWO, the JAIC is applying AI technologies to existing warfighting processes to gain decision, speed, agility, and strategic advantages over our adversaries.
System Engineer Threat Reduction & Protection The U.S. military uses manual workflows to harvest, correlate, and present data during humanitarian and disaster operations, creating additional risk to lives and livelihood. For instance, DoD military personnel assisting civil wildfire fighting activities must wait up to 6-12 hours before receiving manually mapped, fire perimeter locations.
Use AI to provide first responders critical information - more accurately and faster...
- Reduce timelines associated with discovery, resource allocation, and relief operations via AI and AI-enabled applications
- Faster information dissemination, increased analyst productivity, and improved response effectiveness in order to serve first responders and save lives Administrative Assistant Warfighter Health Service members’ health is critical to national security, directly affecting the force’s readiness and effectiveness. The Department spends nearly $50B annually on the Military Health System (MHS). Military health records provide medical data on a large and diverse population over long periods of time, which is rare and valuable when compared to other population U.S. medical datasets.
Use AI to Identify and mitigate pressing health challenges facing our warfighters; dramatically decrease timelines for providing health care and services; and increase operational effectiveness through improved warfighter health.
