About this file

This document contains questions and responses regarding the fabrication of parts for 24 Niskin bottles. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is seeking the purchase and delivery of fabricated parts for the bottles and additional spare parts. Questions from the manufacturer address material specifications for various parts, testing requirements, and whether assembly will be conducted by the manufacturer or the agency. Responses specify that plastic materials like PVC type 1 should be used, no testing is needed as only parts fabrication is required, and the agency will conduct final assembly. The quote for supplying the parts is due by September 7, 2023.

Question: Please see the attached marked up drawing, material call out missing, please advise what material should be used to manufacture the following parts, the drawing does not call out for the material! The 3/8' Air Vent, would like to know what the marking "2-112” inscribed on the outside of a Hex shape object mean?

Response: The 2-212 in the hex drawing is the number for the o-ring used in conjunction with the vent part. This can be disregarded as it will be provided by the end user. The material for the 2" washer would be PVC type 1

Question: Please specify what type of shop test (Hydro-static) are we to perform, at what pressure, in what position horizontal or vertical, for what period of time, what type of water, does test need to be certified by outside agency. Are all components assembled to the main bottle during the testing? The end caps are fitted to the main bottle, no bolting, so a very special fixture must be made to perform the test. Other than hydro static test do you require air test or any other test?

Response: No testing of any kind is required as this job only entails making of the Niskin parts and not final PVC welding of the parts. I see the mark up on the drawing as it pertains to the welding of the end cap. The difference in diameter of the top cap is done intentionally. Since there will be no welding there will be no need for a test rig/jig. All dimensions and tolerances have been checked and deemed successful from prior builds.

Question: Do you mean you intend to just purchase the parts and do the assembly yourself?

Do you want a quotation by Sept 7, 2023 or the delivery of parts?

Response: Yes, parts only. The quote is due by 9/7/23.

Question: Can you find out what material the 3/8” air vent is on page 5 please and the 2” washer on page 4?

Response: The material is type 1 PVC plastic.
