About this file
This is a Notice of Intent to award a firm-fixed-price purchase order for maintenance services on specialized laboratory equipment. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) intends to award a maintenance contract to Carl Zeiss Microscopy, LLC for the Zeiss LSM 880 NLO confocal microscope with Axio Observer Z1 (Contract Number 75N98026Q00653). The maintenance agreement will cover all parts, service visits, and repairs to maintain the system at factory standards. This equipment is critical to the Laboratory of Integrative Neuroscience's research on addiction, synaptic plasticity, and neural circuit function, and regular preventative maintenance is essential to prevent unexpected failures, minimize downtime, and ensure consistent, high-quality imaging for reproducible research data.
The award will be issued on a sole-source basis in accordance with FAR Part 6.302-1. However, small businesses including 8(a) firms, service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses, HUBZone small businesses, small disadvantaged businesses, veteran-owned small businesses, and women-owned small businesses may submit written capability statements demonstrating their ability to perform the requirement by 11:00 p.m. EDT on June 26, 2026. Responses should be emailed to david.shen@nih.gov. An award is anticipated approximately ten days after the notice date unless the Government determines that another vendor has the capability to meet the requirement. The Government retains sole discretion to compete this award based on responses received.

Notice of Intent: Maintenance contract for LSM 880 NLO with Axio Observer Z1
(75N98026Q00653)
In accordance with FAR Part 6.302-1, the National Institutes of Health intends to award a Firm- Fixed-Price Purchase Order to Carl Zeiss Microscopy, LLC.
Maintaining the Zeiss LSM 880 Axio Observer maintenance agreement is essential for ensuring the reliability and performance of this critical instrument in the Laboratory of Integrative Neuroscience (LIN). This advanced confocal microscope is vital for our research into molecular mechanisms of addiction, synaptic plasticity, and neural circuit function—key areas in intramural scientific research supported by NIH. Regular preventative maintenance helps prevent unexpected failures, minimizing downtime and ensuring consistent, high-quality imaging necessary for reproducible data. Equipment failure would significantly disrupt ongoing experiments, delaying insights into addiction-related neural mechanisms and affecting the progress of our research objectives. The support agreement covers all parts, service visits, and repairs, maintaining the system at factory standards. This consistency is crucial for longitudinal studies and for producing reliable, comparable results. Prompt expert support from Zeiss also reduces risks of costly delays and ensures our continued ability to investigate neural plasticity, behavior, and molecular dynamics linked to addiction.
This notice is not a request for competitive quotes. However, any available small businesses (e.g., 8(a), service-disabled veteran owned small business, HUBZone small business, small disadvantaged business, veteran-owned small business, and women-owned small business) as stated herein may submit a written capability statement that clearly supports and demonstrates their ability to perform the requirement. A determination by the Government to compete this proposed award based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government.
It is anticipated that an award will be issued approximately ten (10) days after the date of this notice unless the Government determines that another vendor has the capability to meet this requirement.
Please email responses to david.shen@nih.gov no later than 11:00 p.m. EDT on June 26, 2026.
