GENERAL INFORMATION

1. Title: Blue Line Cage Bottoms and Cagewash Logistics Equipment

2. Background Information: The purpose of this request is to procure equipment to replace worn and broken caging manufactured by Tecniplast, and to procure racks and related logistics equipment for transporting and washing that equipment in the cagewash facility. The equipment procured must be interchangeable and compatible with the Building 35 Shared Animal Facility's existing Tecniplast 1145T "Blue Line" mouse cages, refillable water bottles, and water-bottle logistics equipment.

The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) is a part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), conducting research into the causes, treatment, and prevention of neurological disorders and stroke. The NINDS mission is to seek fundamental knowledge about the brain and nervous system and to use that knowledge to reduce the burden of neurological disease.

The Porter Neuroscience Research Center (PNRC) in Building 35, Bethesda, Maryland, brings together principal investigators from nine NIH institutes for collaborative neuroscience studies. Its basement-level Shared Animal Facility (SAF), led by NINDS's Animal Health Care Section, provides veterinary care, operational management, and housing for rodents used on research protocols across institutes. The SAF covers approximately 62,885 square feet, offers space for up to 23,000 rodent cages, and includes dedicated cage and bottle processing areas. Approximately half of the rodent housing cages in use are Tecniplast 1145T Blue Line models, and all refillable water bottles are also produced by Tecniplast.

The Building 35 SAF requires additional Tecniplast 1145T Blue Line mouse cage bottoms, as well as water bottle trolleys, crates, and presentation racks used for transporting and washing caging and water bottles. Although durable, rodent cage equipment naturally wears over time and must be replaced to meet the operational demand for clean caging. AHCS also requires racks, crates, and trolleys to move equipment between the cagewash area and animal holding rooms, and to securely hold items during the washing process. All required equipment incorporates Tecniplast's proprietary designs.
