About this file

This is a Notice of Intent to Sole Source for a federal procurement. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) intends to award a Firm-Fixed-Price purchase order to 10X Genomics Inc. (UEI: D1NLDEZ14TV5) for the procurement of the 10x Genomics Atera Platform as an integrated spatial biology system. The acquisition includes the instrument, consumables, validated gene expression panels, software, and associated cloud-based data analysis capabilities for the NIAMS Genomic Technology Section (GTS). The system will support high-throughput spatial transcriptomics to enable scalable, high-resolution gene expression profiling of tissue samples. 10X Genomics is identified as uniquely qualified due to its established leadership in spatial genomics, existing integration within NIAMS GTS infrastructure, and the Atera Platform's distinctive capabilities, including whole-transcriptome spatial imaging at subcellular resolution, compatibility with both fresh frozen and FFPE tissues, and fully integrated computational analysis.

Small businesses, including 8(a) firms, service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses, HUBZone small businesses, small disadvantaged businesses, veteran-owned small businesses, and women-owned small businesses, may submit written capability statements demonstrating their ability to perform the requirement. Responses must be submitted via email to Lynda.Cole@nih.gov no later than 7:00 a.m. EST on Monday, July 27, 2026. An award is anticipated approximately ten days after the notice date unless the Government determines another organization has the capability to meet the requirement. The solicitation number is PCA-NIAMS-08199.

Notice Of Intent To Sole Source For Existing Integration Within The NIAMS GTS Infrastructure

(PCA-NIAMS-08199)

The National Institutes of Health intends to award a Firm-Fixed-Price purchase order to 10X Genomics Inc. UEI is D1NLDEZ14TV5 .

This acquisition is for the procurement of the 10x Genomics Atera Platform as an integrated, end-to-end spatial biology system, including the instrument, consumables, validated gene expression panels, software, and associated cloud-based data analysis capabilities. The system will be used to support high-throughput spatial transcriptomics within the NIAMS Genomic Technology Section (GTS), enabling scalable, high-resolution gene expression profiling of tissue samples in their native spatial context.

10x Genomics is uniquely qualified to fulfill this requirement due to its established leadership in single-cell and spatial genomics technologies and its existing integration within the NIAMS GTS infrastructure. The company’s platforms are widely adopted across NIH and global genomics core facilities and are distinguished by their ability to deliver validated, end-to-end workflows that combine instrumentation, chemistry, software, and analytics within a unified ecosystem.

The Atera Platform represents a continuation of this integrated technology ecosystem, offering capabilities that are not available in comparable commercial systems. These include highly parallelized, whole-transcriptome spatial imaging at subcellular resolution, compatibility with both fresh frozen and FFPE tissues without assay optimization, and support for large-scale predefined gene panels as well as flexible custom panel design. The system’s integrated optics, fluidics, onboard image processing, and cloud-enabled analysis pipeline provide a fully supported workflow that reduces technical variability and enables rapid, reproducible data generation.

Importantly, 10x Genomics is the only known vendor providing a cohesive spatial biology solution that combines high-plex transcript detection, whole-slide imaging at scale, and fully integrated computational analysis within a single platform architecture. In addition, the company maintains a strong development roadmap, ensuring continued expansion of platform capabilities, including future multimodal analyses such as combined RNA and protein detection.

Given the existing 10x Genomics infrastructure at NIAMS GTS, procurement of the Atera Platform ensures technical compatibility, continuity of data analysis workflows, and leveraging of established expertise and training within the core facility. For these reasons, 10x Genomics is considered uniquely positioned to meet the scientific, technical, and operational requirements of this acquisition.

This notice is not a request for competitive quotes. 10X Genomics Inc. is the manufacturer. However, any available small businesses (e.g., 8(a), service-disabled veteran owned small business, HUBZone small business, small disadvantaged business, veteran-owned small business, and women-owned small business) as stated herein may submit a written capability statement that clearly supports and demonstrates their ability to perform the requirement. A determination by the Government to compete this proposed award based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government.

It is anticipated that an award will be issued approximately ten (10) days after the date of this notice unless the Government determines that another organization has the capability to meet this requirement.

Please email responses to Lynda.Cole@nih.gov no later than 7:00 a.m. EST on Monday July 27, 2026.
