STM MANHOLE - STEAM: A manhole used to distribute steam throughout the center.

SUB

SUBSTATION: The electrical substations @ GSFC - the Central Substation on the Main

Campus and the East Substation (or East Switchyard) on the East Campus. The SUB acronym shall be used to identify miscellaneous equipment (within the fenced area of the substation) that is not covered by another equipment acronym. For example, if repairs at the Central

Substation were required to the enclosure or roof of a switchgear line-up, or to the perimeter lighting system, the GOMAR number would be 024S-SUB001.

SUP

SUMP PUMP: Used to pump water to a drain from a sump located inside a building, a pit, or manhole. In manholes, the sump pump three-digit number should match the three-digit manhole number where the pump is located.

SWB

SWITCHBOARD - Switchboards, typically rated at 480/277 or 208/120 volts and 1200 amps or greater, provide secondary power distribution to various electrical equipment and main distribution panelboards. Switchboards are typically located in electrical rooms and are fed via loadcenter feeder breakers. Switchboards are freestanding with front and rear accessibility.

SWM

WATER IMPOUNDMENT STRUCTURE - Artificial water impoundment (stormwater management pond, wetland mitigation pond, recreational pond) with an outlet structure.

Includes all components that may be part of the structure including inlet pipes/outlet structures/slopes & core walls/emergency spillways/sand filters/etc. The pond may or may not be regulated. The pond may or may not be classified as a dam. The pond may or may not retain water. Operation and maintenance is specific to the environmental regulatory requirements of the structure and to the safety/property damage potential downstream.

SWP

SECONDARY WATER PUMP: Used to pump either hot or cold secondary water. Typically to induction units.

SWT SEWAGE WASTE TANK: All septic and temporary holding tanks.

TCB

TIE CIRCUIT BREAKER: Draw out type circuit breaker that interconnects switchgear line-up's for enhanced reliability and redundancy. Tie breakers at the Central Substaion and East

Substaion operate in a normally closed configuration. Tie breakers that serve primary and secondary unit substations (double-ended loadcenters) operate normally open. Tie circuit breakers are rated at 15 kV, 5 kV, 480 volts, or 208 volts.

TCP

TRASH COMPACTOR: A machine that compresses solid waste or cardboard to a fraction of the original volume to permit more compact storage while awaiting pick-up. The machine may bag or bail the waste.

TMH

MANHOLE - TELECOMMUNICATIONS: Manholes used to support Goddard's communications network.

TOA TOASTER: A heating appliance used to brown bread, buns, bagels, etc.

TSC

TRAFFIC SIGNAL CONTROLLER: System used to control traffic at intersections. System includes the traffic signal controller, traffic signal poles and lamps, pedestrian crossing signals, etc.

UPS *

UNINTERRUPTIBLE POWER SYSTEMS: Equipment that provides continuous, no-break, conditioned power to critical loads (and some emergency lighting systems at GSFC) in the event of a power failure or power disturbance.

UPV

UNFIRED PRESSURE VESSEL: A non-fired tank containing compressed gas or liquid (Used only for miscellaneous pressure vessels which do not have a system-specific acronym). Includes compressed air receivers.

V *

VARIABLE FREQUENCY DRIVE: Motor controller that provides adjustable speed control for three phase motors.

VAE *

VALVE ACTUATOR (ELECTIC): A valve actuator that is operated by electricity. (Power Plants only).

VAV *

VARIABLE AIR VOLUME BOX: HVAC terminal unit that controls the amount and temperature of air supplied to zone(s); includes either pneumatic or DDC controls, may also include a reheat coil and/or a fan motor and/or an air filter. (Controls may be set to function as a constant volume box, but will still be numbered with VAV acronym).

VCB

VACUUM CIRCUIT BREAKER: 35 kV vacuum breakers which are the primary disconnecting means for the Central Substation (3ea) and the East Switchyard (3 ea.).

VVE

VARIABLE VOLUME EXHAUST BOX: Similar to VAV boxes except that they regulate the flow of exhaust air out of the room rather than supply air into the room. They include a Metasys actuated damper but no fan.

WAC

WATER COOLER: May be either a self contained drinking water cooler, or part of a system with a centrally located refrigeration unit from which drinking water is piped throughout the building to water fountains. A self contained unit will have a single GOMAR number, although it may include more than one fountain (i.e. one high and one low for ADA compliance), and may include a remote refrigerating unit (i.e. mounted above ceiling).

supplying only that unit. Central systems will have separate GOMAR numbers for the central refrigeration unit and for each fixture served (each fixture may be either a single fountain or dual high/low fountains).

WAS

WATER SOFTENER: Equipment designed to soften boiler make up water. Items were previously labelled as RWP (Condensate Return Water Polisher.

WCC

WATER COOLED CONDENSER: Is a component of a direct expansion split-system, containing the condenser; may also contain the compressor. Will be associated with another GOMAR equipment number (typically an AHU; could also be for a supplementary coil in an ACS, or for some other equipment type). For WCC associated with an AHU, use same as AHU number; i.e., WCC007 related to AHU007. For a WCC related to non-AHU, use the next available sequential WCC number.

WRM

WARMER: Electrically operated food warming equipment. Could be a heated holding cabinet, heating lamps, etc.

WEP WELL PUMP: A pump used to transfer water from a well.

WST WASTE STORAGE TANK: A storage tank for waste products such as motor oil or refrigerants..

WTF

WATER FILTER: Filters the water in building heating and cooling water systems, or within

Power Plant systems. In addition to replaceable filter element types, can include centrifugal separators, and strainers if associated with an entire system. (A strainer associated with a specific pump is included as a component of the pump GOMAR, not separately numbered)

WTS WATER TREATMENT SYSTEM: A self containing piece of equipment used to treat water.

WWT

WASTE WATER TANK: A storage tank used to hold waste water discharged from equipment prior to disposal via the sanitary sewer system or other method. Not for use on general waste water (toilets).

NOTES NOTES

2 O&M Manual: Y indicates that the unit is to be provided with an O&M Manual.

Only the main FZN panel requires a field tag. Zone Types are numbered in the MAXIMO database only.

Asterisk indicates this equipment has other than the standard (bldg/three-letter/three-digit) format. See 'FORMAT' tabs within this spreadsheet file for more information.

Asterisk indicates: Blanket piping system designations include related valves and miscellaneous equipment which do not have their own specific GOMAR equipment acronym and number. (For related items that have separate GOMAR acronyms, use those rather than the blanket system acronym). Blanket acronyms used with Building Number prefix apply to piping within that building. Blanket acronyms used with Site prefix "000" apply to site piping.
