2. The Contractor shall be responsible for shipping and/or transporting all equipment and tools to and from the worksite. Ship’s crew will assist with loading by using the shipboard crane to load any palleted items from the pier to the main deck and back from the main deck to the pier. The Contractor shall load and transport all materials, equipment, tools, and miscellaneous related items from the ship’s main deck to the engine room and then back from the engine room to the ship’s main deck after the completion of the top end overhauls.

3. The contractor shall dispose of all project refuse including lube oil and engine coolant.

d. Before beginning the top end overhaul repair work, conduct an operational test of the engines in the presence of the Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR) and the ship’s Chief Engineer to prove correct operation prior to repairs.

e. Perform the following work items for the specified engine and overhaul. Reference each engine’s Technical Manual.

1. Aftercooler Core: Clean, inspect, pressure test. Reassemble, provide and install new gaskets/ joint material.

27. Provide and install CAT remanufactured water pump.

f. Following definitions per reference d. explain the terminology for the services that are performed during an overhaul.

1. Exchange – Caterpillar dealer will exchange the engine’s worn parts for parts that conform to original functional specifications.

2. Inspect – Inspect the components according to the instructions that are in Caterpillar reusability publications. Refer to Guidelines for Reusable Parts and Salvage Operations, SEBF8029, “Index of Publications on Reusability of Salvage of Used Parts. The guidelines were developed in order to help Caterpillar dealers and customers to avoid unnecessary expenditures. New parts are not required if the existing parts can still be used, reconditioned, or repaired.

3. Install New – The service life of the part is exhausted. The part cannot be reconditioned. The replacement part must be a new part.

4. Rebuild – The component is reconditioned in order to comply with reusability guidelines.

5. Replace – The service life of the part is exhausted. The part must be replaced with a part that meets functional specifications. The replacement part may be a new part, a rebuilt part, or a used part.

g. In addition to replacing the major worn components of the engine, the overhaul shall also include inspection of all the parts that are visible during the disassembly, replacement of the seals and gaskets that are removed, and cleaning of the internal passages of the engine and the engine block. Visually inspect all cam shaft lobe surfaces for signs of corrosion, wear, and pitting.

h. Should any of the components listed above or any other parts found during overhaul which are not listed, fail to meet Caterpillar tolerances for wear, submit a condition found report (CFR) to the COR. Additional Work, any authorization to proceed with such work will come from the Contracting Officer.

i. At the halfway point of each engine overhaul, contact ABS to conduct an inspection of each engine for credit towards the Continuous Machinery Survey. Engines will not be closed until approval is granted by ABS via the COR. The Contractor shall provide ABS and the COR with a minimum of 24 hour notice when engine components will be open and ready for inspection by the ABS surveyor.

j. Electrical

1. Inspect all electrical connections/devices, wire standoffs and chafing protection installed on the subject engines and provide a CFR with findings. A contract modification will need to be issued for any additional parts or labor required to correct deficiencies noted. The electrical system, including all components of the shutdown circuitry, must be restored to full operation upon completion of the overhaul.

k. Inspection / Test / Warranty

1. Upon completion of repairs, conduct a satisfactory operational test of the engines in presence of the COR and ship’s Chief Engineer to prove correct operation, and that engines are free of any water, oil and air leaks. The Contractor is required to repair or correct all discrepancies.

2. Test the overhauled diesel generator engines under ship’s electrical load. Test shall be conducted with the ship’s Chief Engineer and, if requested by ABS, with the ABS Surveyor in attendance.

3. Take and record a set of cylinder operating temperatures during the above operational tests.

4. Following completion of all work, and in addition to any condition found reports required by other sections of this Statement of Work/ Specification, provide a detailed service report of all maintenance actions and engine component conditions, including but not limited to, all critical clearances and adjustments listed in the OEM references and all parts rebuilt, renewed or exchanged. Prior to disembarking the ship, submit one (1) copy each of the detailed service report to the ship’s Chief Engineer and the COR.

5. Provide a warranty against defects in workmanship and material per the Overhaul Protection Coverage as indicated in Section 1 of this statement of work.
