About this file
This is a Questions and Answers document for NIST Solicitation No. NIST-RFQ-25-7700689 regarding wavelength-locked laser systems. The document does not address pricing terms, response dates, award dates, or other contractual specifics, but rather clarifies technical specifications for the required systems.
The solicitation requires integrated wavelength-locked laser systems containing internal HCN gas cells delivered in a single box. Each system must output single-mode polarization-maintaining fiber with FC/APC connectors and deliver greater than 25 mW of power at two specific wavelengths: 1530.370 nm and 1550.515 nm. The systems must operate in a typical lab temperature environment between 20 and 25 degrees Celsius. The government clarified that no flexibility exists regarding wavelength specifications, rejecting proposed alternative wavelengths from potential offerors and confirming the exact wavelength requirements listed above.

Questions & Answers
Solicitation No. NIST-RFQ-25-7700689
Wavelength-locked laser systems
1. We currently presume the delivered system is to contain its own integrated HCN gas cell, but wanted to clarify if you were looking for a system that would accept an external fiber coupled cell for reference locking instead.
We need a system that is integrated into one box.
2. Based on the application, we presume the output to be single mode fiber, but if not please specify the desired multi-mode fiber specifications.
Correct, the fiber should be single-mode PM fiber with FC/APC fiber optic connectors.
3. Do the fibers need to be polarization maintaining?
Yes.
4. What temperature range are the devices to operate in?
Typical lab temperature environment, between 20 and 25 degrees Celsius.
5. As for the specific wavelengths, is there some flexibility.
For 1550 range, is P Branch 10: 1549.73051nm acceptable? For 1530 range, is R Branch 21:
1529.83688nm acceptable?
If not, please indicate the desired exact wavelength(s).
The wavelengths should be: 1530.370 nm and 1550.515 nm
6. The 1530 band would R Branch 10: 1535.53981nm be acceptable?
Please see above. The wavelengths should be: 1530.370 nm and 1550.515 nm
What output power level is desired?
The power should be greater than 25 mW for each system.
7. What style of fiber connectors is desired, and should they be angled or flat?
The fiber connector should be FC/APC.
