About this file
This document is a detailed specification sheet for an Optical Spectrum Analyzer (OSA) intended for procurement by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). The specifications outline precise technical requirements for the analyzer, including a wavelength range of 600-1750 nm, wavelength resolution of >0.05 nm, wavelength accuracy of +/-0.3 pm, and a measurement dynamic range of 50 dB. The system must support single-mode and multimode optical fibers, have FC/PC fiber input, and include RS232 and GPIB ports for remote equipment control.
Key additional requirements include a maximum input power of 20 dBm, a built-in calibration light source for system recalibration, and the capability to perform wavelength calibration using an external reference source. The document is dated 28 February 2025 and is associated with NIST Solicitation Number NB686010-25-01360 for an Optical Spectrum Analyzer, indicating this is a formal technical specification to support a federal procurement process for specialized scientific measurement equipment.

Optical Spectrum Analyzer Detailed specifications Michelle Stephens, michelle.stephens@nist.gov, 28 Feb 2025
1. Wavelength range: 600 nm – 1750 nm.
2. Wavelength resolution > 0.05 nm across the operating wavelength range.
3. Wavelength accuracy: +/-0.3 pm over the wavelength range
4. Measurement dynamic range: 50 dB.
5. Max input power: 20 dBm (100 mW) across the operating wavelength range
6. The system must be equipped with RS232 and GPIB ports for remote control of the equipment.
7. The system must have a built-in calibration light source to be used for frequent recalibration of the system.
8. The system must be capable of wavelength calibration with an external reference source.
9. The system must be able to accept single-mode fiber with mode field diameters from 4.3 um -9.5 um, and preferable accepts multimode optical fibers with the fiber core sizes as large as 150 um at the input port.
10. Fiber input: FC/PC
11. The system must be equipped with GPIB port for remote control of the equipment.
