Conference sponsorship and AV support services
National Institutes of Health (NIH) National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR) Project Officer: Marisa Sheelor
DEM1, Suite 710 Rockville, MD 20852
Background The National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR) is one of the 27 Institutes that comprise the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The mission of the National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR) is to promote and improve the health of individuals, families, communities, and populations. NINR supports and conducts clinical and basic research and research training on health and illness across the lifespan to build the scientific foundation for clinical practice, prevent disease and disability, manage and eliminate symptoms caused by illness, and improve palliative and end-of-life care. NINR's research programs, both extramural and intramural, incorporate a broad range of interdisciplinary approaches designed to promote scientific exploration that will lead to better health outcomes and health services. Such approaches include: clinical intervention studies; translational and implementation research.
Scope
The American Academy of Nursing/Council for the Advancement of Nursing Science (CANS) is the meeting to which NINR sends its entire Intramural and Extramural scientific staff. Many of the attendees are NINR grant recipients – either directly or indirectly – and the primary purpose of the CANS annual meeting directly supports NINR’s mission in building the foundation of scientific nursing research. For these reasons, NINR has a large presence as well as an active role. To support this, NINR holds sessions on many different scientific topics with its scientists acting as meeting facilitators, and staff act as subject matter experts on various career and nursing research topics at the breakfast session. NINR also has an exhibit booth and displays various research findings. To fully round out its presence and to showcase the link of the NINR mission to CANS, NINR plans to sponsor the electronic posters that are exhibited at the conference. These services are in direct support of the NINR mission.
On Day 1 of the conference, NINR is hosting its 30th Anniversary Closing Ceremony. AAN/CANS has agreed to let NINR use the conference room provided NINR cover the cost of the audio/visual (AV) services which have already been contracted.
