MOORING LOCATIONS

Approximate location for the mooring locations (identified as yellow dots with red edges) in vicinity of Sanak Island during 5-day vessel charter in Oct-Nov 2016. Ideally, the mooring deployments will occur in Nov depending on weather and vessel availability.

MOORING ASSEMBLY

Mooring assembly (composed of green trawl-resistant cover and instruments inside) weighs about 850 lbs with a 1 inch thick plate steel anchor as the base (not visible). Overall dimensions are 6 ft long by 4 ft wide by 2 ft high. The aluminum frame mooring-release-cage (~300 lbs) fits around (and under) the mooring and is used to deploy the mooring. The complete mooring assembly and mooring-release-cage are sitting on a black pallet (below), which is only used to transport the entire assembly to the boat where it remains on deck.

Mooring assembly (composed of green trawl-resistant cover and instruments inside) and black plastic pallet being lifted by the aluminum frame mooring-release-cage. The release-cage fits around (and under) the mooring and is used to deploy the mooring. The yellow cylindrical acoustic release forms the latch of the release-cage. The release-cage hinge is on the opposite side of the release-cage. When the yellow acoustic release is remotely tripped during mooring deployment, the release-cage latch is released and the release-cage “trap-door” swings downward releasing the mooring to free-fall to the seafloor. The complete mooring assembly and mooring-release-cage are sitting on a black pallet, which is only used to transport the entire assembly to the boat where it remains on deck.
