About this file
This is a Requirements/Specifications document for the procurement of an Ultra High Speed Intensified Charge-Coupled Device (ICCD) Camera by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). The requesting organization is the Physical Measurements Lab/Applied Physics Division/Molecular and BioPhotonics Group, with Requisition Number NB686110-26-01986. NIST seeks to acquire a single ultra high-speed ICCD camera for low light, fast coincidence photon counting in quantum imaging applications, specifically to support entanglement-based indirect imaging and provide high-throughput, low-jitter coincidence counting capabilities.
The camera specifications are highly technical and include: single photon detection sensitivity between 400 nm to 900 nm with quantum efficiency exceeding 10% at 810 nm; minimum pixel array of 1024 x 1024 with pixel sizes less than 5 microns; shutter gate times of 200 picoseconds or shorter with timing jitter of 10 picoseconds or less; adjustable shutter delay from 0.0 to at least 10 seconds with 10 picosecond resolution; shutter opening/closing times less than 30 picoseconds; minimum 10 MHz shutter repetition rate; 32-bit or higher digital dynamic range; operational modes in burst (2 MHz or higher) or external trigger mode (5 MHz or higher); real-time signal integration into 30-bit or higher memory buffer; TTL-level external pulse synchronization capability; trigger master functionality; lens with greater than 95% collection efficiency; high-speed USB interface without separate frame grabber; Gigabit ethernet memory transfer capability; and software supporting full-frame and user-defined region of interest binning. The delivery deadline is 26 weeks from award, with delivery to Kimberly Briggman at NIST's Boulder, Colorado location. Inspection and acceptance will be conducted by the government within 7 business days and will measure and evaluate all listed specifications.

Requirements / Specifications: Ultra High Speed Intensified Charge-Coupled Device (ICCD) Camera
Use this document to detail specifications/requirements for an item and/or ancillary services.
TITLE: Ultra High Speed Intensified Charge-Coupled Device (ICCD) Camera Requesting Lab/Division/Group: Physical Measurements Lab/Applied Physics Division/Molecular and BioPhotonics Group (MBG) Requisition Number: NB686110-26-01986
General Statement of Need The proposed acquisition is for the purchase of an ultra high-speed intensified charge-coupled device (ICCD) camera to perform low light, fast coincidence photon counting for quantum imaging applications.
The mission of the Molecular and BioPhotonics Group is to provide industry, its suppliers and customers, with comprehensive and technically advanced measurement capabilities and standards, as well as traceability to those standards. NIST’s program in quantum imaging has major measurement challenges to perform entanglement-based indirect imaging. This ultra high-speed ICCD camera will enable high-throughput, low-jitter coincidence counting needed for quantum imaging applications.
Items and/or Ancillary Services
Item 1: ICCD Camera Quantity: One (1) Specifications:
1. Camera must have single photon detection sensitivity in the range from 400 nm to 900
nm. In particular, the quantum efficiency in near infrared is greater than 10% at 810 nm.
2. The number of pixels must be greater than 1024 x 1024.
3. The pixel sizes in the array are less than 5 microns x 5 microns.
4. The shutter gate times (the full width at the half maximum at 50% transmission) must be 200 ps or shorter with timing jitter of 10 ps or less.
5. The shutter delay time must be adjustable from 0.0 s to at least 10 s with10 ps resolution.
6. The opening and closing time of the shutter, measured between 1% and 90% transmission, must be less than 30 ps.
7. The shutter repetition rate must be capable of at least 10 MHz.
8. The camera must cover a digital dynamic range of 32 bit or higher.
9. The camera must be operational in a either burst mode or external trigger mode with a 200 ps or faster shutter time at a repetition rate of 2 MHz or higher for burst mode and 5 MHz or higher for trigger mode.
10. Software and hardware must support real-time integration of detected signals into high dynamic memory buffer of 30 bit or higher.
11. The camera shutter can be synchronized by a TTL-level external pulse signal.
12. The camera serves as a trigger master to synchronize with external devices.
13. The lens to focus the photons from free space to the CCD imaging surface provides >95% collection efficiency.
14. The interface to a computer is via a high speed USB, working without a separate frame grabber.
15. Memory transfer from the camera to the computer can be performed via Gigabit ethernet.
16. Software must provide binning for the full frame as well as for user-defined regions of interest.
17. This ultra high speed ICCD camera will enable high-throughput, low-jitter coincidence counting needed for quantum imaging applications. Sub-nanosecond gating is essential to achieve accurate coincidence detection with single-photon sensitivity while suppressing background signals outside the entanglement correlation window.
18. In addition, ultrafast dynamic imaging requires a detector capable of high repetition-rate operation to support rapid data acquisition and time-resolved measurements.
19. To enable broadband quantum imaging experiments, the camera must also be sensitive across a wide spectral range spanning the visible to near-infrared. This capability is critical for entangled-photon imaging schemes in which photons are detected in the visible while carrying information about correlated partners in the near-infrared.
