About this file

This document is a Requirements/Specifications form for a Gallium Effusion Cell, issued by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in 2019. The Quantum Nanophotonics group of the Physical Measurements Lab/Applied Physics Division requires an emergency replacement for a damaged gallium cell used in a Veeco MBE tool for epitaxial growth of semiconductor materials. The specific requirements include a gallium effusion cell with dual zone heaters, compatible with the Veeco GEN10 MBE system, and equipped with Dual Filament "Hot-Lip" heating technology to prevent condensation at the crucible orifice.

The procurement details specify a quantity of 1 cell, with delivery, installation, and training to be completed within 8 weeks. The government acceptance process is expected to take 4 weeks. No additional training, maintenance, or travel requirements are specified, and the base manufacturer warranty is considered acceptable. The document emphasizes the critical nature of this replacement, as the damaged cell has caused multiple externally and internally funded projects to halt.

TITLE: Gallium Effusion Cell Requesting Lab/Division/Group: Physical Measurements Lab/Applied Physics Division/Quantum Nanophotonics Group

NB686100-26-00470

General Statement of Need Quantum Nanophotonics group uses a Veeco MBE tool for epitaxial growth of high-quality, group III-V, semiconductor materials. One material target essential for the operation of the tool is a gallium cell that was recently damaged and needs an emergency replacement. Without the Gallium cell the tool is not operational which has resulted in multiple externally and internally funded project to come to a halt.

We require purchase of an effusion gallium cell with dual zone heaters. This needs to be a replacement for an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) gallium effusion cell, compatible with Veeco GEN10 MBE systems. The cell is required to be equipped with Dual Filament “Hot- Lip” heating technology to prevent condensation at the crucible orifice.
