About this file

This file is a Questions and Answers (Q&A) document for RFQ NB671020-26-01775, addressing clarifications to the Draft Specifications for a truss structure installation project.

The government seeks to procure a custom truss structure for a 38' x 34' room at NIST to support an optical tracking camera system. Key specifications include: the truss must be approximately 10 feet in height with internal cross-beams and down-beams integrated into the structure to provide multiple mounting points for cameras throughout the space; a matte powder-coated surface finish in black, dark gray, or dark blue; and a minimum load-bearing capacity of 1,500 lbs (corrected from an initially published 650 lbs in Amendment 01). The structure will be a permanent installation that may be anchored to the floor or supported by support plates, with minimal legs required to avoid restricting movement and egress to the kitchen and hallway. The contractor must perform an engineering review of the anchoring or floor support prior to installation. An existing cable tray at 10.5 feet from ground level will not be obstructed by the truss structure positioned at approximately 10 feet. The specifications document has been revised to incorporate these clarifications and amendments regarding finish requirements, load capacity, structural analysis requirements, and contractor responsibilities.

Page Section Para.

Specifications / Requirements

Item 3:

Specifications:

3.1

The Contractor would be us; The Contractor would be NIST? NIST would not be the contractor.

Attachment 1 Draft Specifications document Item 3, Specifications 3.1 should say "The Contractor shall perform an engineering review of the anchoring or floor support prior to installation."

The specification document has been revised to clarify.

Specifications / Requirements

Item 1:

Specifications:

1.1 Configuration

Under Configuration at Specifications 1.1 in the Draft Specifications document is mentioned there should be internal cross-beams and internal down-beams. Does this apply to the truss type itself or are do cross beams and down beams need to integrated in the structure?

The down and cross beams should be part of the truss structure. The intent is to have multiple mounting points for cameras throughout the 38’ x 34’ environment.

Specifications / Requirements

Item 1:

Specifications:

1.1 Finish

Are you looking to have this in silver mill finish or powder coated black? The specification document is revised with this amendment to require matte powder coated surface finish in black, dark gray, or dark blue color.

Specifications / Requirements

Figure 1 - Room Layout

Looking at the drawings and I see a cable tray at 10.5” off the ground and other height at 13’; but wondering if you have a side view of the structure to see the overall height? And how many legs are you allowing for in that room?

(For reference, see attached photos for side view of the room. Furniture will be removed by Govt prior to work.) There is an existing cable tray at 10.5' from ground level. The truss structure at approximately 10' will be below this tray and will not obstruct the tray. There is no set limit on legs in the space.

However, they should be minimal to avoid restricting movement and egress to the kitchen and the hallway. The primary function of the space is to capture motion with the optical tracking camera system that will be mounted on the truss structure.

Specifications / Requirements

Item 1:

Specifications:

1.1 Stability

Is this a permanent or temporary installation? This is a permanent installation. The specifications state the truss may be anchored to the floor or rely on support plates.

Specifications / Requirements

Items 1&2:

Specifications:

1.1 (Loading Capacity) &

2.1 (Structural Analysis)

Note from Govt: The published Specifications document incorrectly referenced a minimum support load of 650 lbs. The specifications are revised with Amendment 01 to the correct minimum support load of 1500 lbs.

See revised specification document for correct minimum support load.
