Q: Are the demo of existing doors to occur without waiting for the new doors to be installed? or How many doors can we replace at a time. Please clarify.
Gov Response: Please review the plans and specifications in their entirety for construction sequencing requirements.
Construction Note 4 on sheet A-2 states “Installation of each door, excluding final electrical connections, shall be complete by the end of each work day the existing door is removed. All cells must be secure by the end of each work day.” It would be impossible to install the new doors by the end of each day if the existing door is removed without having the new door on site.
Furthermore, specification section 01 14 00 WORK RESTRICTIONS paragraph 1.2 SPECIAL SCHEDULING REQUIREMENTS states “Have materials, equipment, and personnel required to perform the work at the site prior to the commencement of the work. Remove and replace one door at a time. All work at a cell shall be complete before work on the next cell can begin. This does not include electrical work which shall be complete before the removal of any door begins. Final electrical connections to all motors shall be complete and doors electrically operational by the time the last door is installed. All exit signs are to be active at the end of each work day. All door removal and installation at each cell must be complete by the end of the work day in order to secure the area.
Also note Construction Note 3 on sheet A-2 states “All electrical work, excluding final connections to motors, shall be in place prior to the start of any door removal.”
