Q: I am running into a little road block on the makeup air unit you are looking for at B-80 . I have reached out to several vendors and they are telling me that they can get down to the CFM for a packaged RTU . The smallest Greenheck makes goes down to 800 CFM .
Do you have a brand that you had referenced with your criteria or was this schedule made from you requirements in the engineering ??
A: The design was not developed on the basis of a specific make or model, the schedule was developed from the space requirements. That said I am familiar with the Green Heck line of energy recovery ventilators, and recognize that the lowest listed flow rates are in excess of our requirement. This is typically the case when addressing HVAC requirements for small rooms/areas. The design assumption was that while a larger overall RTU size would likely be utilized, the fan speed would be adjusted to attain the lower flowrate required by the design either by adjusting the fan/motor sheave sizes or installing a variable frequency drive (VFD) on the motor.
