About this file
This document is a Calibration Standards Specification (CSS) for an Automatic Pressure Controller (APC) intended for use by Navy personnel in shore-based laboratories. The specification provides comprehensive technical requirements for a pressure calibration system capable of controlling and measuring pneumatic and/or hydraulic pressure across multiple ranges and modes, including absolute, gauge, and vacuum pressures. Key technical specifications include a pressure range from 1 to 10,000 psia, accuracy of ±(0.1% of indicated value or 0.005 psia), and a 5½ digit display resolution.
The APC must meet stringent environmental, safety, and reliability standards, including operation in temperatures from 0 to 50°C, compliance with IEC 61010-1 safety requirements, and a minimum reliability of 10,000 operational hours for bench-top equipment. The system requires a comprehensive accessory set including pressure hoses, fitting adapters, and a contamination prevention system. Additional requirements cover digital interface options (IEEE 488.2, Ethernet, USB), power specifications (120V, single-phase), maintenance provisions, calibration interval of 12 months, and a transit case for protection during shipping and storage. The specification is prepared by the Measurement Science and Engineering Department of the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Corona, California.
