The contractor shall inspect and remove all exterior rust, replace if necessary areas deteriorated beyond repair, treat with anti-corrosion, and paint to color match existing structure in place.

This includes exterior walls, railings, handrails, ladder wells, roof, and platforms. The exterior walls are covered with a spray poly foam insulation. If corrosion is evident on these walls, the foam insulation will be removed, the wall will be repaired and painted, and new foam insulation reapplied and color match painted with existing structure. Prior to removing any rust or foam installation, the vendor must conduct sampling and analysis by a qualified inspector to ensure no exposure to lead or asbestos exists. All resulting samples must be properly disposed. Quick acting water-tight doors will also require repair, or replacement with a similar replica door.

(Note that a replacement water-tight door can be used. It does not have to conform to Navy Standards.) The following steps shall be accomplished:

c. Remove all exterior corrosion, and loose paint areas, down to base metal. For all rust removal operations, ensure that all applicable containment and environmental requirements are adhered to.

d. At locations where the rust has caused significant damage, the TTS component (wall section, door, frame, railing, steps/ladders, etc.) shall be replaced or structurally repaired (typically welded) prior to re-painting.

e. Replace the removed TTS component (wall section, door, frame, railing, steps/ladders, etc.).

f. Seal, prime, and repaint all work areas and new components. Apply color matching rust resistant paint upon removal/replacement of all areas requiring corrosion removal and/or replacement.
